Great career move.

If he makes $80K, it sounds like a lot to a kid. Big difference between a job and a career.
Good career move for him though, beats working at a fast food joint and the skills he will gain will translate into a lot of meaningful postions that pay big money....especially if he gets paid in pesos.
My guess is he'd blow that 80K in less than a week & have very little to show for it.

There are pros who make big money off games like Starcraft and Warcraft III in big tourneys.
Video gaming is turning into a viable form of income much like physical sports did back in the early 1900's.
Now I'm not saying quit school by any means, I'm just saying video games are turning into a viable form of income for people who are really good and can practice enough to keep up with the latest games.
Guitar hero III may not be around forever but there will be another one and another one and so forth, they'll just keep changing from update to update.
If you have the training and speed to play one game in a genre, you pretty much can learn any of them.

No reason why he couldn't do both...evidently no parental guidance. Too bad for him.

Re: 16-year-old drops out of school to play Guitar Hero
Hundreds of kids drop out of school each week. No one seems to get all bent out of shape then. Usually they drop out to join gangs, sell smack, steal shit, etc... No one cares then, but when some kid (yes it probably isn't the best idea, but still) drops out to pursue something somewhat positive that could translate into honest cash, people are all over his nuts.
Not a huge deal. If he wins 80k in the next year and goes back to finish school at even 19-20 years old he is still in better shape than anyone I know at 25. Imagine winning 50 to 80k. He could pay for college, start a business, invest money, etc...
Besides, it's better than having him sit in school and use our tax dollars to fail and get picked on. Sounds like one less d-bag we have to worry about bringing a gun to school anyways.
Rock on emo kid!
