10 best cities to live cheaply

Most Affordable Places to Live Well

Triple-digit monthly parking fees, $12 movie tickets, clogged intersections and weekly grocery bills that rival some mortgage payments. Welcome to life in New York. And Los Angeles. And Chicago.

Of course, residents in these cities also get access to world-renowned museums, seats at the games of the winningest sports teams, well-kept parks and cutting-edge restaurants.

But, it's possible to enjoy such amenities without the hassles. Step one? Look for more affordable spots that offer a similar or better quality of life, and where the dollar goes far.

First among them: Minneapolis. It nabbed the top spot on our list of Most Affordable Places to Live Well. There, homes are relatively affordable, residents enjoy a high quality of life and access to choice arts, leisure, and entertainment offerings.

    Gotta love the Twin Cities.
I've been everywhere in the US and many places abroad and I can't think of a place I'd rather live.

I have always been in love with the twin-cities. Always wanted to move from St. Louis to there, but have to wait till the g/f gets out of school......

The Twin Cities are the best - I wouldn't live ANYWHERE else.

Dude, if Indianapolis and Cincinnati are 2nd and 3rd, this guy is talking out of his arse as both those cities are complete dumps. Indianapolis is 15 minutes from where the KKK started and Cinci just had race riots a couple years ago. You may be able to live cheaply in those cities, but the most culture you'll get out of Indy is an IHOP and maybe end up in a riot in Cinci.

I'm still more partial to Mankato (my home town) that Minneapolis, but thats because I don't get to the cities that often, i do like the metro area tho Mankato is just kinda like.. a little big city, lol.

I think the winters are warmer and shorter than when I was a child, and I'd guess considerably warmer than 1968.
I like the change of seasons, and after a year or two you learn to throw a jacket on for comfort

One thing I can't get comfortable with is excessive heat, you can throw a jacket on for cool but there's no escaping the heat.
There are many parts of the country that I couldn't stand for that reason.
    But that's just me.
