Re: Sources: Brewster to replace Mason at Minnesota

It's official the new head coach of the Golden Gopher's is Brewster!

    What the f*ck?

Apparently he is a great recruiter so why didn't we hire him as a recruiter and hire somebody else to actually run the team?
This guy has never been a head coach anywhere and he is a TE coach that gives him a lot of experience running a team and leading a major college program, not!

Maturi you should have been fired the day after Mason was fired, and not for firing Mason but for giving him a 5 year extension last year!

Your 1st major hire you blew it, who are you going to hire for your basketball coach the guy who runs the concession stand at William's arena?

    Frickin pinhead!

One good thing is when we have to fire this bonehead in 4 years we will hopefully have a different AD to hire the next coach!

    This SSSSSSSSSSSUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKSSSSSSSS S!

What happened to the other candidates?

There was 4 or 5 highly regarded guys that were interested in the job and would have made more sense then this guy that had interviewed and we get stuck with a nobody.
I would have chosen Mike Tice over this guy at least he has been a head coach and has name recognition, the only players that might have a chance to know who this guy is are some TE's that might know of his reputation but that's it.

    SSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTTT!! !!!!!!!!!!

here is a list of some of the candidates that the Gopher's were interested in (borrowed from another thread) and this guy wasn't even on the list.

    Minnesota Candidates:

    • Former Colorado coach Gary Barnett
    • North Dakota State coach Craig Bohl
    • Wisconsin off. coordinator Paul Chryst
    • Former Miami coach Larry Coker
    • Michigan def. coordinator Ron English
    • Notre Dame OC Michael Haywood
    • USC co-off. coordinator Lane Kiffin
    • Fmr Iowa State coach Dan McCarney
    • Notre Dame DC Rick Minter
    • LSU def. coordinator Bo Pelini
    • Ohio coach Frank Solich
    • Former NC State OC Marc Trestman
    • Okla. def. coordinator Brent Venables
    • UCLA DC DeWayne Walker

I would take any of them over Brewster
What we've got here is failure to communicate.

    Thank god.
Here in Fargo, we definately didn't want to lose Bohl.

    Gads, what a tough crowd...
    Don't sell this guy short.
He has excellent credentials and is very highly thought of throughout the college football community. Even Patrick Ruesse who is the biggest hard-nosed sports writer in the country says this guy could be great.
This may be the best hire the Gophers have ever had. Just because he's a new name on the list doesn't mean he can't coach.

Hold on -- just because you haven't heard of him doesn't me he may not be good. The U of Illinois wanted to hire him a couple of years instead of Ron Zook. Here's a link to what they said about him:
    http://illinois.scout.com/2/321990.html
He is a Big 10 guy, captain of the Illinois 84 Rose Bowl team.
He was Mack Brown's top recruiter for 10 years at UNC and Texas.
He has developed TE's like Antonio Gates, Jeb Putzier, Alge Crumpler, and Freddie Jones.

Just 'cause he's not the glamour guy doesn't mean he won't work. All accounts I have read say he has a good personality and works with people well.He also has two sons playing HS football who are studs, one is a QB rated among the top 15 in the nation and heavily recruited. The other is a junior.
He has been looked at as a head coach by a couple of other major colleges.
I am willing to give you that he is a solid recruiter from what IO heard. But the Gophers had a chance to make a huge staement that they were going to get a big name guy and someone who could recruit.
The OC from USC or NotreDame were 2 bigger names on the list and were also known as stud recruiters. In fact the USC coach was listed as the top recruiter in the country right now. I want Brewster to do well and I really hopoe he does, but I think that the opportunity to make a statement and o well would of been much better for the program

If he is so highly thought of why isn't he more than a TE's coach after 20 years coaching football?

We had a unique opportunity to hire somebody to help oversee a new stadium and to take a program to the next level, this guy has never been a headcoach or even a coordinator what qualifies him to lead a Big Ten program to the next level?

The fact he recruited Young to Texas, a lot easier to do than recruit him to Minnesota!

This is the worst hire ever, not a chance to be the best hire!

Reusse should only be allowed to report on girls bowling, and nothing else.
His opinion in my opinion means nothing, in fact less than nothing so it actually makes me like the guy less if Reusse endorses him.

Joe Maturi should be fired today for this hire, and anybody on that committee should never be allowed to sit on another coaching search committee ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every coach on this list is more qualified to lead the Gopher's than Brewster.

    Minnesota Candidates:

    • Former Colorado coach Gary Barnett
    • North Dakota State coach Craig Bohl
    • Wisconsin off. coordinator Paul Chryst
    • Former Miami coach Larry Coker

    • Former NC State OC Marc Trestman
    • Okla. def. coordinator Brent Venables
    • UCLA DC DeWayne Walker

    Every single one!

And we are trusting a guy that gave contract extensions to both his football coach and basketball coach and then fired 1 the next year and the other one 2 years after a new contract!

Maturi you are a horses a$$ and should be run out of town on a rail!

Well acording to various reports Gary Patterson was the first choice and offered the job and turned it down. But his name is not on the list.Alot would make sense about a job being offered but the denial when he did not take it.

I didn't think Mason was that bad, he just couldn't win the big game. This guy better get some big wins against the top 3 teams in the conference.

I get the most pissed off looks from people with my VKG 4 LFE Wisconsin license plate, and I LOVE IT!!
