Minnesota has hired Denver Broncos tight ends coach Tim Brewster as head coach, sources said Monday night.

Gophers are denying the hire of Brewster. ESPN has taken it off the crawler. We'll have to wait and see for sure.

Brewster enjoyed success at the University of Texas (1998-2001) and the University of North Carolina (1989-97), where he also coached special teams and was the Tar Heels' recruiting coordinator. He worked on Head Coach Mack Brown's staffs at both schools and developed six tight ends who signed NFL contracts.

So his claim to fame is coaching Gates and Crumler. I am all about giving someone a chance but come on this can't be for real

Hold on -- just because you haven't heard of him doesn't me he may not be good. The U of Illinois wanted to hire him a couple of years instead of Ron Zook. Here's a link to what they said about him:

He is a Big 10 guy, captain of the Illinois 84 Rose Bowl team.
He was Mack Brown's top recruiter for 10 years at UNC and Texas.
He has developed TE's like Antonio Gates, Jeb Putzier, Alge Crumpler, and Freddie Jones.

Just 'cause he's not the glamour guy doesn't mean he won't work. All accounts I have read say he has a good personality and works with people well.He also has two sons playing HS football who are studs, one is a QB rated among the top 15 in the nation and heavily recruited. The other is a junior.
He has been looked at as a head coach by a couple of other major colleges.

Whatever happened to the OC from USC?

Apparently Brewster is a 5-Star recruiter.. Something which was a very important point for the new Head Coach. Hopefully Joel Maturi hasn't let that be his ONLY requirement as HC for the Gophers.
