LSU's Russell to enter draft after junior season

Can you say Da Raiders Russell?

JaMarcus Russell has often been compared to Daunte Culpepper.

(Very strong arm and crazy athleticism.)

He's expected to be a first round pick, but I'd be shocked if he was the number 1 overall pick in this years draft.

Although, I do think the Raiders will draft a QB, especially after passing up on Jay Cutler and Matt Leinart in last year's NFL Draft.

If the Raiders take him (which I've heard rumors on ESPN that they're going to), and Detroit doesn't take a QB, I'm interested to see who Cleveland goes with, Brady Quinn, Ohio native who has said he'd like to be there, or Troy Smith, Cleveland native.
It's similar to the Vince Young / Matt Leinart debate last year.

I think that most people believe that Quinn is the better pick at quarterback. He's got all of the tools (size, arm strength, a college "NFL" system, etc.) that the scouts look for. Troy Smith on the other hand has better numbers and has led the #1 team in the nation, but he's only 5'10 and questions have been raised about his ability to be a good pocket passer in the NFL. I think the scouts believe Quinn has the better upside in this case. I'd be surprised if Smith was taken before Quinn, no matter what team it is.

i just have to say that i think this guy is amazing!! i wish he wouldn't have entered this year, so we could have maybe drafted him if we realize that jackson isn't our guy!! but i would love to get this guy!! I am not sure where he is ranked, maybe a late 2nd pick maybe?!?

I agree with you Ltrey... For a team to draft a QB in the first round, he needs to be a prototypical pocket passer (6'5" with a laser, rocket arm) or a rediculous athlete (Vick).
While Troy Smith is without question a great college QB, NFL teams simply don't want to pay first round QB money to a guy who is 5'10".


I will say that with Russell coming out, the chance that we could possibly get Calvin Johnson goes up slightly.

I understand the debate that scouts like Quinn better, etc, but if you're going to post statistics or #'s, please post accurate ones.

Heard it on ESPN Radio that he was more like 5'10, which if he's listed at 6'1 is probably right.

Anyway...still a bit undersized they say to play QB with virtually every lineman at 6'3 or above.
