The 4th Military Academy (Irish) Lose

    And good!
They did not have a shot at the title anyhow.
I mean playing Stanford, Army, Navy, Air Force, and UNC?
Up until tonight Michigan was the only quality team and they got their butts handed to them at home.

The 2 quality teams they played beat them handily.

The best was the onside kick that was run back for a score by a LB!
    LMAO!

There are a couple #'s that are used by more than one player on the Trojans roster.

It was funny listening to all the IDIOT Irish fans yelling "Oregon State" ..I was quick to remind them that the OSU Beavers BEAT the Irish a couple seasons back in the Fiesta Bowl !
Naturally, they had NOTHING t say about that...

Worth every dollar to see USC beat Notre Dame...

    There what?
    How many shared titles?

    And no, I am not.
I did not watch football that long ago...college that is.
Truthfully I started getting into "non-NFL" football when I started coaching youth tackle.
I also started watching HS ball a lot too.
I actually prefer to learn from HS and College ball than the NFL.

So, I could care less about 8 popularity contests.
I care about the one this year that ND is not a part of though.
Cannot play wuss teams and think you can compete in college ball.
Don't believe me, look at their schedule.

    Yes.
Let's look at Notre Dame's schedule.

Game 1 - @ Georgia Tech - ND wins on the road - GT is now 9-3 and headed to the ACC Title game.
    Game 2 - Penn State - 8-4 - ND wins by 24
    Game 3 - Michigan - 11-1 - ND gets blown out
Game 4 - @ Michigan State - 4-8 - ND stages historic comeback to beat bad team
    Game 5 - Purdue - 8-5 - ND wins by 14
    Game 6 - Stanford - 1-10 - ND wins by 21
    Game 7 - UCLA - 6-5 - ND wins by 3
    Game 8 - Navy - 8-3 - ND wins by 24
    Game 9 - UNC - 3-9 - ND wins by 19
    Game 10 - @ Air Force - 4-7 - ND wins by 22
    Game 11 - Army - 3-8 - ND wins by 32
    Game 12 - @ USC - 10-1 - ND gets blown out

You are correct in noting that Stanford, UNC & Army are pretty putrid.
Air Force is on a down year, as well.
I think Navy is a quality opponent as are the Big-10 schools they played (well - maybe not Michigan State).
All of those rivalries, however, are long-standing, traditional ND rivalries which is why ND continues to play Navy, Army and Air Force.
    Tradition means something.

Now - in the issue of fairness, let's take a look at Ohio State's schedule.

    Game 1 - Northern Illinois - 7-5 - OSU wins by 23
    Game 2 - @ Texas - 9-3 - OSU wins by 17
    Game 3 - Cincinnati - 7-5 - OSU wins by 30
    Game 4 - Penn State - 8-4 - OSU wins by 22
    Game 5 - @ Iowa - 6-6 - OSU wins by 21
    Game 6 - Bowling Green - 4-8 - OSU wins by 28
    Game 7 - @ Michigan State - 4-8 - OSU wins by 31
    Game 8 - Indiana - 5-7 - OSU wins by 41
    Game 9 - Minnesota - 6-6 - OSU wins by 44
    Game 10 - @ Illinois - 2-10 - OSU wins by 7
    Game 11 - @ Northwestern - 4-8 - OSU wins by 44
    Game 12 - Michigan - 11-1 - OSU wins by 3

OSU non-conference opponents are Northern Illinois, Bowling Green, Cincinnati and Texas.
    Are you kidding me?
Texas is a legit win against a big-time school, but NIU, BG and UofC of patsies tossed up for the W and you know it.

In Big-10 play, OSU played neither Wisconsin nor Purdue, two of the top-5 finishers in the conference.
Instead, they feasted upon the bottom feeders of the conference - except, of course, when they barely snuck out a win against the worst of the worst, winning by 7 over the Illini.

I have no doubt that OSU would likely kick ND all over the field - the ND defense is truly putrid.
But do not hold up the OSU schedule as if it is some titanic struggle against high-quality opponent week-after-week.
Northwestern LOST to Div-IAA New Hampshire at HOME and Minnesota almost lost to Div-IAA NDSU at HOME.

Compare the schedules side-by-side and they are pretty equal.

    @Georgia Tech is a wash with @Texas.
Cross out the 3 common opponents (PSU, Michigan & MSU).
Stanford and Illinois is a wash.
    @Air Force and @Northwestern is a wash.
UCLA is a better team than either NIU, Bowling Green or Cincinnati, as is, I would guess, Navy.
So add UNC and will wash out those 3 games.

That leaves Purdue as a better opponent for ND than Minnesota or Iowa.
Army as a weaker opponent than Indiana.
And USC as a MUCH stronger opponent than anything OSU has left.

Keep believing that schpiel you're draping all over this thread if you want to, Ultra.
The reality is something quite different.

    Thank you AW!

I'm not saying Notre Dame is great this year, and I never said they played a hard schedule, but you can only play the oppenents on your schedule. The only unknown is the bowl game you play in. Like AW said, Notre Dame plays a lot of teams for tradition. Back in the day the military academies were good, and won national titles. Now, they can't get athletes (at least top notch) because they have to serve their country and the top athletes don't want to do that, they want to go to the league after college (hard to blame them really).

I'm not trying to argue, you love your team, I love mine. Quinn should win the Heismann and Smith shouldn't, just my opinion. That's all.

I get the most pissed off looks from people with my VKG 4 LFE Wisconsin license plate, and I LOVE IT!!
