Found a quote over at the DN that dispells another myth.

Bevell said every play call went through Childress.

Well it isn't like it is any revelation......Of course everything went through him. He was the HC.

Hell, even with Leslie, everything still went through him.......

"So, this week (in game planning), it was a little bit different. I still kept Coach Frazier informed, told him what we were doing, how we felt like we should attack them. But it wasn't like, 'I don't like that, throw that out' or 'I like this, put that in.' There wasn't any of that."

It just isn't his forte, offensive play calling or game planning.

See it how you will. I look at it as like adopting an abused kid.

The new kid screws up, then cowers expecting the belt, but new daddy isn't that kind of guy.

That sounds good, but it still doesn't alleviate the fact that he still ran things through the current HC, just like he did with the old HC.

Kind of funny when you think about it cause that's how all NFL staffs work it.....That's why they call him the "Head Coach".....

well yes, but the point is Fraizer doesn't meddle. He lets Bevell do his thing.

Childress was very controlling. He had to have complete control at all times.

He was the HC. Of course he was controlling. Do you think Leslie won't have his own measure of control? He'd be crazy not to.

Don't you think there's a difference between having a 'measure of control' and complete control that Chilly wants?

Time and time again, they say Childress micro-managed everything, with poor results I might add, yet Fraizer is pretty hands-off.

Quick question, are the Patriots successful cause Belicheat is a "Hands Off" HC or because he micro manages everything?

Are you really comparing Childress and Bellichick? Belly is the OC and DC of that team, and he does a fantastic job. Nobody in the league has or can do that.

Why is that your first response when I ask a question of that nature. No I'm not comparing the two. I am only pointing out one example of a HC that is a micro manager and is successful, especially over a period of time.

How about Big Mac over there in PUKER land. Do you think he lets his defense run without any input?

Look at Dallas. That was a team were the HC didn't have a say on the offensive side of the ball. What did that get him?

Again, successful teams have a HC who is in charge and manages every aspect of the team when it comes to game planning, teams that don't have that luxury aren't.

So some teams manage to do it. Great. Thing is, Childress can't. He insists on doing things his way, which more often than not has turned out to be the wrong way.

I strongly believe that you left birds fly and dogs run. Meaning, if you don't know a damn thing about defense...let someone that your trust run it. The eagles have been very successful.

I don't think he does anything. Dick Labeau runs that defense fantastically. remember, Tomlin is a cover 2 guy, but the Steelers run a 3-4. He was smart enough to leave that alone. He's not an offensive guy, so wheover the OC there is, runs that just fine. I'd say his role is to decide when to go for it, go for two, pass to seal a win, etc. but the OC does the majority of the playcalling.

And good point about the eagles. Reid has ran that offense for a long time, but left Jim Johnson to do his thing. Not sure what the situation there is on D right now however.

You, above all posters on here, don't think for one minute that either of those coaches don't have a say in what their coordinators do.

Back to what Bevs said. He still ran it by the boss. That, my friend, is reality.
