What truly defines an asshole is that they are usually right about things and are not afraid to say so even if it pisses people off.

History
And it came to past that our friend was paroled after having been incarcerated for acts involving mind altering substances. As a condition of parole, he had to attend "AA" meetings at regular intervals and have a card initialed to provide proof of his attendance. Given his contempt for 12 step programs in general, we decided to provide him with an alternative "AA" that better suited his needs. So was born "Assholes Anonymous".

Philosophy
The basic tenant of "Assholes Anonymous" meetings is that anything goes - short of physical violence. Behavior is typically abrupt, arrogant, audacious, blasphemous, bold, brash, brave, brazen, brusque, cheeky, clumsy, coarse, cocky, courageous, crass, critical, crude, curt, daring, discourteous, disdainful, disparaging, disrespectful, excessive, flamboyant, flippant, forward, garish, gauche, gaudy, glaring, glib, gross, haughty, ill-bred, imperious, impertinent, impious, impolite, impudent, impulsive, inconsiderate, indelicate, insolent, intrepid, nervy, ostentatious, outrageous, pompous, presumptuous, primitive, profane, rash, reckless, rude, rustic, sacrilegious, sarcastic, skeptical, tactless, tasteless, tawdry, thoughtless, uncouth, undiplomatic, unrefined, vulgar, and wild. Well, what do you expect from a bunch of assholes?

Those who can not handle the freedom of expression at meetings are free to exercise their own freedom of expression by leaving. Occasions like this provide fodder for discussion by the surviving assholes.

Attributes
Personal expression is encouraged and judged for originally, content, timeliness, and means of expression. Non-verbal sounds resulting from bodily functions are welcomed.

The 12 Steps of Assholes Anonymous

1. We admitted we were powerless over our assholiness - that our lives had become unmanageable

2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to non-asshole living.

3. Made a decision to turn our asshole desires and asshole habits over to the care of God as we understood God

4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of our own personal asshole.

5. Admitted to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our being an asshole.

6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of being an asshole.
7. Humbly asked God to remove our assholes.

8. Made a list of all persons the asshole in us had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all

9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or other assholes

10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were being an asshole, promptly admitted it

11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood God, praying only for knowledge of God's will to free us from our assholes and the power to carry that out

12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to other assholes, and to practice these principles in all our affairs

1. Assectomy

Assectomy – the procedure in which an asshole is separated from an institution, employer or personal relationship because of being an asshole.

Some survive an assectomy by joining AA Assholes Anonymous and participating in a 12-step program to reform their lives. Others just go on to another institution, employer or personal relationship to repeat the cycle in an endless loop of assholiness.
