Re: when does the pain go away???
Himility is one of life's most important lessons.
Too many people today are afraid to let their kids fail.
IMO, not healthy!
Was in similar situation in my younger days.
Mid- forties now and STILL think about it!
This will NOT be the last time you fail in life!
Learn from it and carry the lesson through your life.
The sun wil still come up tomorrow!A good friend will help you move...a best friend will help you move a body.

I was trying to think of something like this but wasn't sure how to word it. 'The pain goes away when you move on in life.
At some point you will see football is not your life, but only a part of a larger picture.
You will discover new passions and develop a new
team (i.e. family)
Yet one nice thing that never goes away are some of the lessons learned.
You will carry with you, strong qualities from the grid iron.
Qualities that will make you success in future endavours such as team work, commitment, and pride.
While time heals all wounds, the passion that was presented by on the field will continue to give you tools to future success.
i hope it helps, good luck
Mike
The pain will get less with time and that will probably start real soon. I'm not sure if I'm making too much of what PAIN you're in but you make it sound like a horrible pain and once you learn what the big picture is, whether for a positive reason or negative reason, it won't bother you at all.
I'm only 23 so don't think this is old man talk but I've learned a lot since high school lolSkol Vikings! Go Cubs!

Suck it up buttercup. You will play again. You might not have Bob or Fred or who ever you always had beside you with you. But you will play again you will learn a new system, yet remember things from your past. You may even play against old friends. You must learn from the past and not dwell on it. The pain goes away when you tell it to.

ANYWAYS, the pain will go away. Everything at that age feels like the end of the world, but you'll look back on it and say "at least we got that far." I played for an inner city school that Cretin used as tackling dummies, so you're lucky to have gotten that far.

Re: when does the pain go away???
Shit happens bro, we've all been there. My junior year I was projected preseason all state varsity at outside linebacker for one of the best football powerhouses in the state. Third day of actual real hitting and I took a cut block from a scout team reciever and was forced to miss the entire regular season. Being a junior, my first game back was in the last JV game of the year, where I had 11 tackles in the two quarters I played. I played in the three district games and missed out by lettering by 2 quarters after I suffered a grade 3 concussion in the last one that put me out for the rest of the season.
My senior year we had high hopes on our team, with a new coach (after the winningest coach in Kansas football history retired), new offense, and new defensive schemes. Our defense was running a 3-4 defense, one of the few HS teams i've seen run it. With the new coach we had very low expectations, and that didn't help much after losing the first two games of the season. The third week saw a huge turn around for us dropping 72 points on a conference rival, and we took off like a wild fire through the rest of the season. Districts came around and low and behold I was having one of the best games of my career, with college scouts there watching me play, and I broke a bone in my ankle and partially seperated the tendon on the inside of the leg. I missed the rest of the season. Our team made it to sub state that year. Down 35-0 at half to our rivals (Hutchinson, Kansas) we rallied and tied the game. With two minutes left we were driving. We try to throw a screen pass to our all state running back and out of no where (the guy wasn't even in the frame on the widescreen film when the ball was thrown) Hutch's all state linebacker picks off the rock and takes it back for a td with about 25 seconds left. We ended up losing 42-35.
Now imagine how miserable it was for the team to take a hit like that, and then imagine not being able to play. Terrible feeling, I couldnt watch Friday night lights for close to 6 months, without reliving all of that ya know? We set every school record, and broke several state records for total offense and total defense that year, and yet we couldn't quite pull the upset to win the game.

If a college, no matter what level, is offering you an education for playing a sport (that most of us love), jump on it.
Study hard, play hard and set yourself up for the future. Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.
