Listen, I have a copy of photoshop 5.5 it is solid. 7 is better.
I don't use 5.5 anymore I have Photoshop CS2, so if you want you can learn on 5.5 it does a lot of stuff and is the same format.
You can however go to downloads.com and get the CS version on a 30 day trial. But if you are not familiar with photoshop you will be hurting because it is pretty advanced.
Well Like I said I have 5.5 and I can make a copy if you like. It is a good one to learn on. I love my CS2 version totally blows everything away. If you try 5.5 like it, get a grasp for it and want to try something with a bit more oomph we can arrange something.
The only thing I HATE about 5.5 is the lack of a solid text wrapping feature.
A friend of mine turned me on to "Gimp". It's a free program downloadable on the internet. The makers wanted to create a comparable program to Photoshop, without the cost. It seems like a decent program, a little complicated for a novice like myself, but I'm getting acclimated.
Here's the website with the download: http://gimp.org/
Just like Del Rio I work in Photoshop CS
I would take him up on the free offer.
It is a great version and the price is more than ok!
Once you get to know it you can make some killer stuff.
Just tinker with it and play.
Also go to a half price book and get a book on it.
Should not cost more that 3.00.(used)
And when I say killer stuff I mean like John Wayne KILLER!!!
Now you can get the other programs(we call them "The Eastwoods")
and you can do some things with them, but they fall short of greatness just Like Clint Eastwood.
Oh Ya Del Rio I bleed the smack over here too!!

Yeah, like Anglo said, www.good-tutorials.com is a good site. Also, www.pixel2life.com has a bunch of photoshop tuts, but they also have tuts for a bunch of other graphics programs. I did much of my photoshop learning through good-tuts. It's a good way to learn what the different tools and options do, even if you never use the final results of the tut you're reading.
Ulead GIF Animator is a good app also.
I also have PS 8 cs but never really use it. Also have PS Elements which is all you really need and is a lot cheaper.
I didnt even know CS2 came out going to have to check that out. Thanks Del Rio.
It's one of the perks to being a graphic designer. We rarely use it though and our main programs cost way more then photoshop.
Poser is one of my favorites. But this new CS2 is nice.
