PC Advice
Ok, I just a brand new PC.
I have 2 boys (11 & 6) who like to go online and search and play games.
Sometimes they used to fiddle with my old PC and make changes to the settings.
What I want to know, is there any way that I can set their account (I have XP) so they cannot change settings?
Also, what about internet security?
Can I put something in that will not let them see certain sites?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: PC Advice
I haven't ever done it but you can set up individual accounts on the computer that you can give the boys limited access on.
I should explain how do to it in your XP book and ask you if you want to do it when you power it up/configure it for the first time.
I will see if one of the minions can give me something to help. Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.

Re: PC Advice
In XP you can set their accounts to limited accounts under the control panel.
Then they cannot change settings or even install software unless you type in your password.
As far as Internet... there are a lot of programs that can give you more control over what your kids do online. NetNanny is one example.Zeus wrote:

Hammer, take a look at the PM. It gives you two links to two different websites that can help.

Re: PC Advice
Thanks.
I did set up the accounts to limited, just was not sure how much that entailed.
I guess I want to protect against sites with bad content and not allow them to download anything.

NetNanny is another, blah.
Make their account a standard account and each gets their own login.
You be left as admin.

Here is a hard core filter that I have on the children's computer:
