Laptop Help
Well The wife and I both are taking online classes this semseter. However with one computer we are quickly realizing that we need to get a laptop. But with time REALLY Tough and VERY tight right now for us, we can't go out and spend a top of the line model in any way shape of form.
We had thought Used but that just scared us both, neither of us really now alot about what may be a decent model, style, ect. to get that will come pretty inexpensive as well.
Any ideas? Thansk for the help

Re: Laptop Help
I have found a couple really good deals at Office Depot for around 700.00
tigerdirect.com just sent a advert to my house and I saw one on the front page for 650.00.
I didn't see the details.
These aren't the one in the advert but it is a start.

I am sure there will be some other good suggestions.
For that matter if you are just doing internet, find someone in a metro area that buys company's old laptops and resells them.
Probably get something with XP for about 300, give or take a few dollars.

Re: Laptop Help
If you want something basic, go with an Acer. I got mine at RadioShack for $300 on special. It works fine for me. Does everything I need it to do.

Re: Laptop Help
My mother in law got a used computer like I mentioned so she could do wireless internet around the house.
No problems!
Get it from someone that has a local shop (computer repair shops, store front)
I am sure they will stand behind it.
Don't get one that joe schmoe is getting rid of on EBAY.
Is just seems to me like a risk with EBAY.
There are some shops that sell on there, but I wouldn't go with an individual.
JMHO!

Re: Laptop Help
You don't need to spend much, look in the 400-600 price range.
I do a LOT of work on laptops and I won't buy a HP/Compaq laptop ever again.... between the 5 people in my grad program who got them, 4 of theirs died (one twice actually) within 18 months... their customer service taught me never to buy from them again.
I've had personal good luck with Dell, Toshiba, and Sony...

I have a Compaq that is still kicken and booten.
It has been the Dells that have been the problem.
It was the 2003-2006 that the Dells really seemed to have a problem.
That was my experience.

I would agree with that. I have owned 2 dell laptops and two HP'a and the HP's have both been more reliable and better performing. And with the Dell's, when I had to talk to customer service I almost went postal."ThorSPL" wrote:

Re: Laptop Help
Don't get a Dell. If they look inexpensive now, wait until you have to upgrade.
I would advise you to head over to best buy and ask that exact question to them. When we bought the laptop I am using right now, they were very helpful in what I was looking for. Laptops are cheap now. I am sure you can find a good deal on a fairly high quality product. Just be sure to shop around first and consult us before you make any final decisions. PPO knows all. We're bringing purple back.
