Going to Vegas
Wife and I decided that next year instead of giving Birthday/Anniversary and Christmas gifts to each other and because it will be 10 of wedded bliss :
in august that we wanted to go to Vegas.
We want to stay somewhere nicer since thsi is not going to be just one of those trips to "Sin City". just strting the process, but any ideas on Hotels? looking to stay on the strip, anything cool to see or do? Thanks in advance.

It was cool, right across the street from Bellagio.
Tons to do - you won't want for entertainment.

Sweet.
I stayed at Harrahs.
My wife had a conference there.
So I bought a plane ticket and went.
I do not gamble but just walked around, ate, and drank.
Go to the Hoover Dam, it's awesome.

Re: Going to Vegas
The two times I've been there, I've stayed at the Rio (just off the strip), and Mandalay Bay. I really liked Mandalay Bay. It's at the very end of the strip, so it's a bit of a hike to get anywhere else, but it is connected via a tram to Luxor and Excalibur, which gets you closer to the other sites. It does have the best pool area I've seen, with few regular pools, a wave pool, and a lazy river, that I've seen in Vegas. That was nice, 'cause I couldn't afford to gamble all day, so having something to occupy my time during the day was a good thing.
The place where you need to go to gamble, though, is O'sheas. It's not a hotel. It's on the strip, right in between the Imperial Palace and the Flamingo. It has cheap food and cheap tables (I found a $2 blackjack table there) and, as much as a casino can, has an Irish Pub atmosphere. I love the place.
Here's a map of the strip that I just found that might be helpful.

Anything that is centrally located on the strip is great (Tower was to far to walk) as you can walk to all the other casino's.
I also agree with Ultra.
The Dam is worth the trip if you enjoy history and engineering stuff.
Simply amazing. Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.

Re: Going to Vegas
I have been to the Luxor, Mandalay Bay, Excalibur (ugh), and the Bellagio.
By far the nicest is the Bellagio, but you will pay for it as well.
Honestly, we didn't spend much time in our hotel, so any of the centrally located ones should be good.
I will also cast my vote for the Hoover Dam tour, although I heard it isn't as good post-9/11.
Rent a car and make a day of it.
Also, the canyon helicopter tours are supposed to be pretty good.
My favorite part of Vegas was the food though.
Absolutely amazing restaurants.
The buffets are no longer cheap, but still very good.
And some of the top end restaurants are the best I have ever tasted.

When are you going to realize that picking out the 20 bad throws this year and ignoring the 300 good ones does not make your point?
