    Re: External Hard Drive?

I was able to recover some data over xmas break for my parents' business... I will try to find the program I used.

    Trust me, I'm a doctor.

Also, I look newegg.com because of the deals and customer reviews.
But you have to be aware that people are more apt to leave a review if they get junk.

I would get one with a cooling fan if you are going to use it a lot.

    This is what I got:

    http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=N82E16817193019

Had good reviews and installed in a few minutes.
Just plugged it in and was done.
    The quality is good too.
    A lot look like crap.

    Re: External Hard Drive?

Copied everything to an extra hard drive with the program that Thor found for me.
    Thanks again Thor!

All the info was there, the files were even in the folders.
    Awesome!

I have seen some paid services that will just dump the file randomly on a disk or hard drive.
    This was very orderly.

    Re: External Hard Drive?

there is a method that sometimes works for dead hard drives should this ever happen again.
all you do is stick your hard drive in the freezer for a few hours and somehow it starts working again (depending on what's wrong)
This is only a temporary fix, but often will give you enough time to copy your data off the hard drive.
I'm not sure why this works, probably because the cold contracts all the parts allowing the moving parts to move more freely.

if you want reliable hard drives, you can drop $900 for a solid state drive with no moving parts...
