    Pawn Stars

I have been kinda watching Pawn Stars out of the corner of my eye for the past few hours. What are these people's problems? A professional will come in and tell them their item is worth $1000. After about .2 seconds of thinking they will sell it to them for $600.

And the lies that the owners tell them piss me off "I am going to have to get this fixed and redone so I might lose out of money." While they know damn well they are going to make a huge profit.

Long story short.. the Pawn Stars employes are assholes.

It's a pawn shop. Historically people go to them to get cash they need right now and the shop has to sit on the item for however long it takes to find a buyer.

Yes, the people could just try to market the item themselves on ebay, craigs list etc and probably make more money on it but then again the pawn shop has a network of people that specialize in specific areas that the average joe could never do.

They have like a 30 person payroll, property taxes, and have to make a living so it isn't like they can pay full retail for an item and feed themselves.

That being said I wonder how many of those people are plants that are sent in to make the show more interesting.

ITT... a guy who doesn't understand pawn shops.

However, I also gotta wonder how much they pay those 'experts' to undervalue items.

I like "Pawn Stars" but only when something better (i.e. Swamp People) isn't on so I don't get so see them as much as you do my friend, however, they do have to make money.

Can't pay top price and expect to resell it at top price without a bit of room to make some money.

    Re: Pawn Stars

I think on the show they are pretty fair. My guess is that many pawn stores pay even less(because usually the seller is desperate for cash).

I think most pawn stores make most of there money through payday loans, pawn loans, and check cashing, rather than through actually buying and selling stuff.

The TV show rarely shows people pawning things or taking loans at all. I'm sure they don't show the guy selling his kids education bonds so he can get back to the blackjack table for a reason.

Agreed - now that I've seen every episode of Pawn stars and American Pickers at least twice I've been watching Storage Wars and American Restoration.

Basically all a spin off of Antiques Roadshow, a PBS classic.

I like Swamp People but it seems a completely different genre. Truth be told I've only seen a handful of episodes. Good show though.
