Automatic Free Beer Welcome Threads
So, post-site upgrade, automatic "Welcome So-and-So" threads are being generated in here.
So far, I've only seen 2 of the new members who actually posted in the "Welcome" threads.
The rest have been unvisited by the new members themselves.
Is this a good idea to do automatic welcomes?
Or a bad one, since the new member doesn't have to make any actual effort to introduce themself?

Thanks to Josdin for the awesome sig!

Re: Automatic Free Beer Welcome Threads
Bad idea, it litters the FTH section, and as you mentioned only 2 people introduced themselfs.
If they want to hang around they'll introduce themselfs anyway.Rosie O'Donnell is a dude!

Re: Automatic Free Beer Welcome Threads
At a minimum the automated stuff shouldn't appear in the latest threads on the right.
Personally, I don't bother with that section most of the time because there are ~8000+ members and probably only a couple hundred that contribute.
I'll say something to them when they post something....plus, I am not in need of fake friends.Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please. Mark Twain

Re: Automatic Free Beer Welcome Threads
Just based on so many people who sign up and never post, I'd say to quit doing it. I can see the other side of it where it might encourage someone to post because they feel more welcome but I still voted to make them introduce themselves if they want to.

You can continue quoting robotic replies and tallying up your new fake friend list while I methodically post idiotic statements elsewhere.Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please. Mark Twain

I don't think it's necessary either.
Any Viking fan should feel welcomed and be welcomed in here. The Pack, the Pack, gonna smack the Pack.

Re: Automatic Free Beer Welcome Threads
It is possible to send them a PM as well when they join? That would ensure they see the thread and increase the odds of them posting in it.
