Anyone remember Wade Wilson?
If you do, he is the reason why I'm a vikings fan. Not much of an exceptional QB but in Dec. of '87 when I was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes he was on the cover of the JDA's (Juvenille Diabetes Association) magazine in Viking Purple. Being that I was 9 at the time, I (like any all-american kid) wanted to play football when I grew up so seeing as Wade was the only Diabetic in the league at the time he instantly became my hero. Then a year and a half later the vikings came to Memphis (where I grew up) for a preseason game and I got to meet him and A.C.; from that point forward I was a Vikings fan for life.
Of course I didn't realize at the time that I was signing up for a lifetime of heartache. It should have been an omen when later that same year, on the day of my 11th b-day, the Hershel Walker deal was announced. From overtime losses to flatout flops I've realized that being a fan is not about wearing the jersey only when times are good. Anyway, I've browsed through this site a number of years but was always afraid to sign-up because I knew inevitably we would come up short and my heart break would be all the worse for getting so involved. But I've decided to turn over a new leaf in a show of good faith for our new revamped D, which is how you win championships.
So cheers! And here's hoping that this season is the start of a purple dynasty!!

P.S. - My name comes from playing a lot of FPS and I figure if you can't laugh at yourself then who can you laugh at. If it offends any other of my "sugar-freak" brethren, I apologize in advance. The Betic Always Gets His Shot!
