how depressing.Even though the Vikings generate the lowest revenue in the NFL,
Thats why they better get a new CBA hammered out soon.
The problem is the crappy lease they have with the MSC that allows for the slimmest of revenue streams for the Vikings from the "extra" stuff - signage, lux boxes, parking, etc.
However, I don't know what you mean by "many of those tickets never get cashed".
A purchased ticket is a purchased ticket, no matter who buys it.
Whether or not the ticket is actually used matters not one bit to the revenue stream of the Vikings - except that a non-used ticket doesn't buy hotdogs and beer and mini-donuts.
The parking revenue stream for tailgating was brand-new last year and is an attempt by the Wilfs to make the best of a bad situation - and build good-will with their fans.

Gotcha.
And to that point I say - the Vikings lease with MSC gives them minimal return on concessions inside the Dome.
It's the crappy lease that's killing the revenue.

I never understood why that could not be addressed to give the teams a bigger share of the pie and if it can't happen in this stadium, how it will change in a new one when the same agency is involved.

Better lease with the new stadium, and more seats that are not subject to NFL revenue sharing rules.
Those two changes alone will bring in a pretty significant increase in money.Zeus wrote:

2 things.
As I said, that lease should have been rewritten before to let the team take advantage of the extra revenue in this stadium.
Second, you still need to sell the stadium out for the extra seats to help you out. I do understand that the PSL's and luxury boxes will generate extra income for the team that will not have to be shared by the rest of the league, but all of that may change in the near future too if the big market teams decide that they want to keep what is theirs.
It is pretty interesting that we have 32 free market owners operating in a socialistic system. But that is enough politics ;D

All you need to do is go to a new NFL stadium and you will quickly realize that the Dome is a dump in comparison.
When the Vikes got the Metro Dome they sold their soul to MSC.
Besides what Z pointed out club seating, naming rights (Cards got University of Phoenix to pay $154.5 million over 20 years ), adverstizing is Big in the NFL and you want your company name easily visible.
The big thing for Wilf is he plans to build around the stadium so he can get secondary revenue from all events.
