I agree, but it shouldn't be that way.
The Lions and the Cardinals got new stadiums and they've been diseased for years.

Umm - the stadium is sold out and has been for years.

The problem is the crappy lease they have with the MSC that allows for the slimmest of revenue streams for the Vikings from the "extra" stuff - signage, lux boxes, parking, etc.

For the last few years the sellouts have been done by bulk purchases at the last minute. I am sure you know that. many of those tickets never get cashed and the revenue from the unfilled seat is never realized, nor is the parking revenue.

Vikings don't make much on parking do they?
I had thought most of the parking in the area was privately owned lots.

You are right about the lease. It sucks and it is a travesty that in the years where this stadiums has been paid for, that a better deal could have not been reached with the team or in the least that funds could not have been put into a reserve to go towards a new one. No argument there.

SOME of the sellouts have come from bulk purchases by local businesses.
However, I don't know what you mean by "many of those tickets never get cashed".
A purchased ticket is a purchased ticket, no matter who buys it.
Whether or not the ticket is actually used matters not one bit to the revenue stream of the Vikings - except that a non-used ticket doesn't buy hotdogs and beer and mini-donuts.

The parking revenue stream for tailgating was brand-new last year and is an attempt by the Wilfs to make the best of a bad situation - and build good-will with their fans.

    Gotcha.
And to that point I say - the Vikings lease with MSC gives them minimal return on concessions inside the Dome.
It's the crappy lease that's killing the revenue.

Even during the games where a corporate sponsor had to buy up tickets, the dome was still pretty full for the most part.
    Not many empty seats.

I never understood why that could not be addressed to give the teams a bigger share of the pie and if it can't happen in this stadium, how it will change in a new one when the same agency is involved.

Not to be picky, but it wasn't for the "last few years."
    It was last year only.
And it only happened for two games. Once for the home opener, where KMSP-TV Fox 9 bought out the remaining 400 tickets, and once for the Detroit game, in which U.S. Bank and SuperClean/Factory Value Parts partnered with KMSP FOX 9 to purchase the remaining 2000 tickets.

Is it ridiculous that we had to rely on corporate buy outs of seats?
    Absolutely.
But let's not exaggerate the issue and claim that all or any of the sellouts for the last few years have been dependent on corporate buy outs.

I am looking forward to the 105th consecutive sellout come September 14th.
And I doubt any corporate assistance will be needed.
