Worst Players by postion on the team(Who to replace or bench)

I was thinking of the team as a whole and what could be done to improve us next year.
So I decided to evaluate by position who I thought to be a reason for our playoff failure. Or just to get rid of the problems etc.

    1. Troy Williamson....Just a complete head case who is overpaid and would leave the team room to develop the younger more reliable WR's.

    2. Kenechi Udeze.. Injury prone
    3. Darrion Scott... behavior problem
    4. Erasmus James.. not enough of a threat to the QB
    5. Ryan Cook... Worst mistakes at the wrong time
    6. Kelly Holcomb... Worst QB of the underachievers
    7.Dwight Smith... Behavior problem
    * Sorry the post got broken apart!

You just released half of our defensive ends I don't think that would be very smart. Kenechi Udeze actually played pretty well this year, without injury problems so I'm not sure why he hurt our playoff chances.
If anyone is injury prone it is Erasmus James, and you just said not enough of a threat to the QB, even though when healthy he is one of our best pass rushers....when healthy I remind you.
A guy who I thought dissapointed me the most, was Visanthe Shancoe (sp?). He was not a very good blocker, and seemed to have a good amount of penalties called on him.
He also was not the fastest TE and was right with Troy Williamson in terms of bad hands, although probably better haha.
He dropped 2-3 td throws this year, including a little lob pass from Chestor Taylor....a RUNNING BACK! I don't think Chestor bulleted that ball in their, so there is no excuse for that.
    Maybe Mills will step in.

Yes I do think the DE"s our the worst part of our team.
I said I would bench some and replace with better players through Free agency or the draft etc.

Of that list, the only ones I would seriously think about dumping are Troy Williamson and Kelly Holcomb. There rest are perfectly serviceable if not downright good players.

    1) Troy Williamson: cinder blocks for hands.
    2) Udeze: Was the team leader in sacks.
    3) Scott: Meh. Serviceable backup. Let him be around to keep up competition.
    4) Erasmus James: Injury prone, obviously, but not a bad pass rusher when healthy. Let's see what he makes of his off season.
    5) Ryan Cook: Starting to develop. Still makes some mistakes
(and let's not forget that he does wear "false-start Stuessie's" number) but is young. We led the NFL in rushing with him on the line. That says a lot to me. He does need to continue working on his pass blocking, but I like how far he came last year.
    6) Kelly Holcomb: Who cares? He's a 3rd string QB. I see a practice squad in his future.
    7) Dwight Smith: He's had some issues, but he's a playmaker. I personally wouldn't mind seeing him back.

All in all, if we are going to replace players, we need to first have better players to replace them with. Where will these players come from? If you are going to call for a player to be benched or replaced, it would be helpful to have someone in mind with which to replace them, eh? Personally I see no need to replace any of our starters save perhaps the QB (maybe). Regardless, even if you do replace the starters there is no reason not to keep people around for depth.

Udezee had an Ok year and seems to of gotten over anything serious as far as injuries go.
James i doubt will ever be able to play again.
Cook Should get moved to C were he will do just fine and eventually will be a great replacement for Birk eventually.

Re: Worst Players by postion on the team(Who to replace or bench)

That is a weird list. I mean sure ... if we can get Bob Sanders by all means bench or cut Dwight Smith. Kenechi, Darrion and Erasmus? Lets cut them and go with Brian "Cannot stop the run" Robison at all times and Ray "gonna get suspended" Edwards. I mean ... I guess since we are getting Bob Sanders we might as well get Dwight Freeney and Patrick Kerney also.
Simply put ... Kenechi and Darrion are VERY serviceable and pretty good components on our defense. As far as D. Smith goes ... big playmaker, makes solid tackles and is a veteran ... no reason to get rid of him.
If Erasmus is healthy he has shown quite the propensity to get to the QB. We knew injuries would be an issue coming out of college and took a shot. If he gets through the injuries he has done a fairly good job of pass rushing.
Obviously Troy Williamson is expendable at this point. and Kelly Holcomb is a lock to be gone. Cook is growing ... and a veteran OL is not that expendable, but we could serve well to beef up on that side of the line.
Honestly, to cut or bench outright? Not many of them on this team.
    1. Troy Williamson .... no brainer unless he is willing to work as the No. 5
    2. C29 or MeMo ... likely MeMo because he is a free agent, but Chester could move in the right deal.
    3. Kelly Holcomb ... will definitely be gone unless they decide to part with Bollinger (could ditch both)
    4. Tank Williams and Mike Doss ... both are FA and will likely not be back.
    5. Visanthe Shiancoe ... not likely to get rid of him, but he is not a really good blocker (though serviceable) and is no threat in the receiving department. Which really hurts in the WCO.

Re: Worst Players by postion on the team(Who to replace or bench)

People I think should be cut.

1.Troy Williamson-Look at my sig..The guy is a complete bust and is not worth the money he is being paid. We should sign DJ Hackett a guy that is basically the same as T-Will but he can actually catch the ball and he can jump.

2.Dwight Smith-He has had to many off the field issues. I don't want a guy like him on our team. We could go out and sign a more talented and younger saftey Madieu Williams.

3.Kelly Holcomb and/or Brooks Bollinger-Would rather go get a guy like Steve McNair that was similar to TJ when he was younger. He would be a good mentor. I would also like to draft a "project" QB in the late rounds..Who knows maybe we can find the next Tom Brady.

Those are basically the only players that I want released from the roster but there are some free agents that we have that probably won't be brought back

1.Mewelde Moore-I like him but there is no way he will resign with us. He will probably see an increased role with another team

2.Darrion Scott-I don't think they should retain him just because of the off the field incident he had. His talent is not worth the headache.

3.Spencer Johnson-I definatly want him back but he will probably sign with another team and see more playing time.

4.Tank Williams or Mike Doss-I think they need to resign one of these guys but I bet one of them leaves.

I cannot believe that you guys are so forgiving to behavior problems of Dwight Smith and Darrion Scott.
I do know that they are decent players but is it worth the trouble? You dont see Patriot players in the police blotter.
And with Edwards i forgive him because he took resp for his actions in an article I read on this website. I know its contradiction but its how I feel.

Pot really isn't a big deal, and I doubt it affects team chemistry... just body chemistry
    ;D

You do, however, see patriots players get fined for poking Brandon Jacobs in the eye.
And Rodney Harrison and Randy Moss aren't exactly saints either...
