Re: The worst moment in Viking history!

#1 - No question the loss to Atlanta 30-27. My lasting memory is Cunningham taking a knee at the end of regulation.
#2 - Staubach to Pearson Hail Mary...absolutely killed me.
#3 - 41-0 loss to the Giants...nuff said.
#4 - Brent McLanahan's fumble...talk about a change in momentum!
#5 - Super Bowl IV...Hank Stram was miked up for the game, and I'll never forget his disrespecting our team.

N.B. The score of the Super Bowl loss to Pittsburgh was 16-6.

Re: The worst moment in Viking history!

Thought this would fit nicely in this thread:

This Day in the NFL

http://www.nfl.com/history/0111-0117

January 13, 1974

Miami beats Minnesota 24-7 in Super Bowl VIII behind fullback Larry Csonka's 145 yards rushing to claim their second straight championship.

Thanks for all the memories -- I had been trying to forget them!!! LOL

I have to agree -- the Hail Mary pass was the worst. Watch the highlights and on that play you can clearly see Drew Pearson shove Nate Wright down into another Viking, he catches the ball and doesn't celebrate - he looks back at the official expecting the pass interference flag, then amazingly doesn't see it and then celebrates.

One ref got hit in the head with a bottle and he wasn't even the guy involved in the play!!!
The riot after the game was very atypical of that era. People were ready to burn down Met Stadium!!

I agree a very close second is the loss to Atlanta.......worst coached game ever IMO. There is no way we should have lost that one.

I was pretty small, but I would have to say the 1969 Super Bowl would be my #3. We came in as 16 1/2 point favorites and lost by 16.......you don't see that too often!

Worst days in order

1. The day Korey Stringer died in the line of duty

2. The day of the Herschel Walker trade (we should really call it the Mike Lynn trade, because Herschel Walker is not the one at fault)

3. Tie between the four lost Super Bowls, the four lost NFC championship games ('75, '87, '98, and 2000), the Fran Tarkenton trade to the Giants, and the Randy Moss trade. I just can't rank any of these.

I just KNEW somebody out there would see it the same as me!
The top 3 are lowlights of lowlights and very clear in my mind.
I might place Darrin Nelson's drop of a sure touchdown against the Redskins in the Playoffs.
The 1998 Vikes were an awesome team, as was the team that lost in the "Hail Mary" game...top two teams in the history of the Vikings.

I am still really upset about the 99 yard TD run that Dorsett (?) had against us.
It was like the nail in the coffin, Dallas owned us time and time again.
It was down hill from there until Thanksgiving Day 1997 (?), and that is why I am a RMCS (randy moss crotch sniffer).

I don't see an option for when Tice was fired after a winning season,
Definately 98 NFC Title
41-0 NFC Title to the Giants, was that 00 or 01? can't remember, too painful to look up
34-0 to the Pukers this year
