    Re: Willie Offord should start

I won't be confident either until I see what happens. We have 2 players that are good starters. We have others that can step in. I mentioned Jack Brewer earlier. Can anyone tell me why we let him go? I know he was hurt in 2003 but he looked pretty good in 2002 when he played towards the end of the season.

Chavous is very important for depth, but it would be hard to justify giving him substantially more than 1.9 million simply based on his play last season, period. I say, don't trade him (unless you can get serious value) or give in to his contract demands. Let him sit out the season if he wants to, the starting spot goes to whoever is in training camp, Corey.

Are you crazy at this point you play Chavous because he was a Pro Bowler 2 seasons ago and w/o Russell's blown assignments he will be a better player this year. If he is healthy you keep playing Chavous until Offord out performs him.

The only way Offord starts this season is an injury or Chavous decides to holdout for most of the year and gets traded.

I think i remember reading somewhere that by him not going to the developmental camps, he was trying to gain leverage to keep his current salary, because he does not want to restructure it. Perhaps some of the rumors about that were true. Either way i hope he is in purple this year and in training camp at the latest.

The film simply does not support this concensus that Corey Chavous can tackle. He can't anymore.

    What film are you watching?

He was 4th on the team in tackles. He has had 80+ tackles the last three seasons. This is ridiculous.

If he's holding out for MORE money, I say let him go. Give him the Eric Kelly treatment...Ask for your release and you shall recieve.

The fact is CC can tackle just fine and as Del Rio stated earlier it's only May so no one knows if he's going to be a hold out. However, IMHO no more money. Play with 1.9m, see how you do, and if appropriate ask for more. Last years performance does not warrant a raise.

Cut Chavous and give Offord the job. The Vikes will save cap money and will be better off with Willie. He is the reason we didnt go after Shazor in the draft. Willie would make him look silly. Plus Cottrell is impressed big time so far in developmental camp. See ya Cory!

I'd take that if Chavous gets cut. Better than starting Fox...the thought of a rookie safety just has "toast" written all over it.
