Well it looks like the job is going to Willie. Ted likes him alot and he is way more physical(Knocked the crap out of 250 pound Najeh Davenport) when Corey bounced right off of Bubba Franks. And Chavous was a fluke 2 years ago. I dont want him on this team. I want guys who play their moneys worth. I think that Ralph Brown will also be really good too.
I hate the bears and packers

Probably true... I like him. Lets not forget that he was a pro-bowler only a year before last

    LMAO!!!

anyways, i like willie too. not because hes better, or i think he should start, but because hes more physical. chavous still does a good job at tackling (he tackled 81 times, hes doing something right) and hes a very smart player.

    Re: Willie Offord

Well, I'd like to welcome you to the forum Willie, but I don't try and make it habbit to welcome newbs who don't understand the game of football and yet seem to think they know something.

Willie Offord has been given the chance to start at SS every year he has been in the NFL. Yes, even last year when he was competing with Russel (If Offord played well enough Chavous would move to FS where he is better and Offord would play SS). He hasn't been able to start for the last 3 years and Corey Chavous was in the pro-bowl two years ago and has had 2 and a half great years at Safety.

You say Chavous can't tackle but 3 straight years of 80-plus tackles sure presents a problem to that claim.

Offord has more physical tools to be a SS. I agree, but it doesn't mean anything if he can't use it. When you play safety you ahve to be smart and Corey Chavous is widely recognized as the smartest player in the league, sometimes even too smart. With 12 INTs in the last 3 years, I'd say he can cover too.

Chavous is one of the better safeties in the league, the only reason he had a GOOD year instead of another Pro-Bowl year last year was because there was one other player in the secondary that did anything - Winfield. Also, our LBs played like crap, and our Dline had trouble getting any kind of constant pressure on the QB. Also he played in Cottrel's crappy scheme.

If Chavous decides not to hold out he is the starter without question. If he decides to miss anything mandatory then I say trade him, but don't let Offord start, get someone good to replace Chavous.
When it s all said and done, you ll have to admit we re number 1!

Chavous is much better.. He had to make up for all the mistakes the D made.. He studys film much more then anyone on our team.. and ppl out of position wasnt really his fault.. u can blame that on cottrell.. Chavous is always near the ball and is very smart.. The D played good not because of Offord when we beat the pack.. We could have done that will CC as well.. As long as he doesnt hold out he is our guy

    Re: Willie Offord

I've always liked Chavous. The reason that our defense did poorly this year is that Ted Cottrell, henceforth referred to as the "Spawn of Steckel" (or SOS for short) until he redeems himself, relied too much on our crappy LB's in his coverage schemes. O'Leary recognized the shortcomings of our young linebacking corps, unlike SOS. Thus, Chavous was able to do more than look on helplessly as E.J. "The Human Sieve" Henderson blew his assignment for approximately the 3,029,257th time, leading to more interceptions. It also helped that O'Leary called more blitz schemes to compensate for our youth and inexperience. Our talent and veteran leadership should help us this year. If it doesn't, it will be Cottrell's fault, and he will be re-hired over my dead body!
