Re: Will (Should) The Vikes Favor A Running Game in 2007
"A true WCO really sets up the run via the pass vice the way a traditional offense sets up the pass via the run."
That is why we are screwed if we try to run a true WCO. We simply do not have the talent to do that.
"These positions in the West Coast offense will probably have more catches than rushing attempts."
Ok, maybe FB, but once again if CT and AD catch more than they run, we are not using them correctly.
"...maintain possession through the air just as other teams tried to do on the ground. "
We tried that last year, we all know what happened. When Childress abandoned the run last year (sometimes for no reason at all) we suffered miserably. That was the main reason we lacked a ball control offense.
Fuck the scheme, run the ball."I hate when threads are destroyed by facts and logic."

I agree. And that was exactly our biggest weakness last year and what killed us. When teams found out they could blitz us and rush the QB and pass all day on our secondary we were finished. Those blitz pickups (by all) are very important in any offense but are especially critical in the WCO.
Gonna get in trouble with this next one so standby.
(I've provide links to back this up before)
I think that is why Memo wasn't/isn't a fan favorite of the Chiller or Tice.
I think that is why Wiggo was sent on his way.
Throw in the fact that no one on the OL was comfortable with the new blocking scheme and you had lions sleeping with cheetahs, cats sleeping with dogs, mass pandemoniom.
;D
Hopefully the likes of Shank (blocking/stretching the field), B-wade (running crisp/precise routes) getting off the line out of the slot quickly, T-rich back healthy, 2 RB's that can catch and pass (hopefully block), a QB that is a bit more mobile, T-will (Nike don't let me down) catching balls, and some additional comfort level at the OL might make the KAO abit more Kick Ass than it was last year. Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.

Not only holding the ball too long, but (with Brad Johnson) almost a total lack of ability to evade the rush and buy some time.Lots of balls batted down at the LOS, lots of pockets collapsing from the DE pinching. Lots of blame on the QB for holding the ball too long, when we had ZERO mid level offsive blocking going on.
Once the pocket started to collapse, Brad just didn't have the legs to get outta Dodge.

Leaving your Qb to dry is one thing, leaving your aging vet, with a slow release is another. If you promise to be smarter, I will promise to be nicer.

I can only blame coaching. You knew what you were getting in Brad Johnson. Starting Brad Johnson and expecting Mike Vick agility to survive is no fault of the QB."Zeus" wrote:

I think Childress put a lot of faith in the O-line. On paper it was a force.....in the heat of battle it was mistake prone and fighting to get ahead of the learning curve. Which is why this year I hope he can try and do some of the things he wanted to do but couldnt last year. They line "should" be massively improved. If you promise to be smarter, I will promise to be nicer.
