The 1998 Minnesota Vikings 6th in the league in scoring defense at 18.5 PPG.
Given their average of offensive average of 34.8 ppg, that's a scoring margin of 16.3 PPG, which led the league.

    =Z=
0_0 Wait, the defense scored 18.5 ppg? All I remember is them giving up big yards and especially during a (ahem) specific game.
Because I'm a Vikings fan, they are that much sexier.

    Nope.
Eventually somebody is going to come up w/ a defensive gameplan that works on NE.

Well that dinking & dunking as you call it has reaped them approx. 3.5 more points per game so far than the '98 Vikes put up.

So if they keep "dinking & dunking" the way they have been, they'll still beat the record.

It depends on how many injuries they get. If Brady, moss,Welker or Stallworth go down, they will be less effective and will see a decline in scoring. If they stay healthy they will have a good shot at it.
I think this is pretty much right.
If Brady or Moss go down for a significant period of time, their production will go way down.
Those two guys are the key for that offense.
Welker and Stallworth, not so much.
They have other guys that can step in and get open underneath when Moss is pushing the safeties back into the far stands.

Well, so far Brady has thrown about 4 passes of 20+ yards per game and he averages something like 9 yards per attempt.
Compare this with last year for him when it was under 3 passes of 20+ yards per game and about 7 yards per attempt.
And if you watched the Dallas game, you'll notice that they are still attmpting to go down field quite often.

In any event, as effective as Brady is (over 70% completions and only 2 picks), it doesn't matter if they go long, it only matters that they score TDs on a high percentage of their possessions.

[quote author=patistheman]The Patriots do have one of the main components of the 98 Vikings team.
How ironic is that if they do break it.
    Not at all.
Actually, that would be the opposite of irony.
When the age of the Vikings came to a close, they must have sensed it. Probably, they gathered together one evening, slapped each other on the back and said, "Hey, good job." - Jack Handey [Deep Thoughts]

nah, he just worded it funny.
What those stats means i our defense GAVE UP an average of 18.5 ppg (how many points were scored against us).
And with our 34.8 ppg average we won by an average of 16.3 ppg, little more clear?
