    Don't print that

) A little birdie says Vikings owner Zygi Wilf sent restricted free agent Koren Robinson a half-dozen handwritten notes this season saying how impressed he was with the way the Pro Bowl wide receiver had made a comeback from alcohol abuse, and that is expected to favorably influence Robinson's decision to remain in Minnesota.

) Bernie Kukar, 65, of Edina has been a referee for two Super Bowls, his most recent in 2002 in New Orleans when New England defeated St. Louis 20-17. Kukar, following the NFL's rehearsed pregame script that day, directed former President George Bush to make the ceremonial coin flip at midfield in front of about 800 million viewers around the world.

Bush, though, balked, telling Kukar he would not flip the coin and said he wanted his cohort on the field, Roger Staubach, to do it. Kukar responded by telling the president that it was planned for him to flip the coin. Figuring this was no time to argue with a former president, though, Kukar obliged and had Staubach make the flip.

Kukar, who also was an alternate referee for the 1996 Super Bowl and has been a NFL official for 22 seasons, will watch today's game from his winter residence in Lutsen, Minn. He plans to continue to referee NFL games on a year-to-year basis.

) Vikings center Matt Birk could become one of the top NFL TV analysts after his playing career, Sports Illustrated projects. The Harvard graduate also would be a perfect choice to head the NFL Players Association.

Speaking of TV analysts, it will be surprising if Kevin McHale isn't offered a top job broadcasting NBA games if he decides he has had enough of running the Timberwolves.

) Former Gophers basketball player Corky Taylor, who works for the city of Minneapolis, was a quiet candidate for the Gophers assistant athletics director job that recently went to former Viking Leo Lewis.
