This year's Super Bowl XLI raked in an economic impact of $463 million for South Florida, according to a study released last week by the Sport Management Research Institute of West Palm Beach, Fla.

The institute found that 112,403 people visited the region for the Super Bowl and related festivities.
Without a roof, Minny will not get a superbowl bid.
We need this promise of economic impact in order to make this feasible in the legislature.
I know a lot of people seem to relish the idea of outdoor football in Minnesota, but I would much rather have an enclosed stadium or a retractable roof than an open air stadium.
One major outdoor concert per year at an attendance of 70,000 per concert over 25 years should give us at least that much income potential. Book a few major concerts with major Country, Rock etc and you could certainly recoup any revenues lost by not having the roof. Plus you save what, 350 million by not putting the retracta-roof on there.
That revenue would not be recouping anything.
You would get the same concerts regardless of a roof or not.
In fact, you would probably get more concerts with a roof because you could have them year round.
Not having a roof would mean that they could not use the stadium for events all winter long.
Sorry, but that argument doesn't hold up.

Plus the roof is only about $200 million.

    As do I.
But the open air enthusiasts forget that Minneapolis will make a lot more money with an enclosed or retractable roof stadium.
If we want public money to help pay for it, we need to throw them this bone.

    Screw concerts at a stadium.
We should get one of these.

Just say no to Domes of any kind.
Football should always be played outside in whatever Mother Nature brings.

    OK.
Then do it without public money.
The stadium needs to support more than just football if we expect the state to help pay for it.

    I agree with you Nodak.
I believe that the idea of an open roof is preferred by a smaller group of hardline fanatics.
As we have seen with the stadium legislation's failure before, for this stadium to get passed it needs to have popular support (those damn liberals) and support amongst the politicians (those damn liberals, and yeah you too Pawlenty you thong wearing flip flopper).

    No public $$$
    Just private investment?
If that can't be raised in Minny, move the team to football state that will build it.
    Pretty simple.
Let the people of Minny spend their $$ on social programs all they want. And let sports loving states have all the Pro-Sports teams.
Has Minnesota not learned it's lesson on Pro Teams and what is needed?
You want Pro Sports cough up the $$$.
Or settle for High school, College and semi-pro.
Get DirecTV and buy the Pro Sports package of your choice.

    Right.
So your view is that if people don't want to watch football outdoors then they don't love sports?
That if we would rather make a decision based on smart business as well as passion for sports, then we don't deserve to have a football team?
And apparently you'd rather watch the LA Vikings in an outdoor stadium than the Minnesota Vikings in an indoor one.

You are entitled to your opinions.
But if your ultimatum is build an open air stadium with public money or I am moving the team, then the only thing you would succeed in doing is moving the team.
