I wonder if it is the new coordinator or just the fact we got him some help in his two new assistants?

probably having good ST players like Brinkley, Farwell, Onatalu and Frampton help as well as a new coordinator.

I think it's a combination of several things:
    1.
    Health of Farwell
    2.
    Addition of Onatalu and Paymah
    3.
    Addition of Harvin
    4.
The abolishment of the wedge rule on kickoffs

    =Z=

Thanks to Josdin for the awesome sig!

    Forgot about 4.
Don't forget to add Sanford and Brinkley to 2.

Good point about those 2 rookies.
Talent on the field certainly helps make things look better.

Long story short, IMHO, ST's are better cause they are playing as a group and not just cause one guy is back.

The return game is one thing, and that's mainly the talent at both return spots.
Obviously more goes into it, but Reynaud and Harvin are both excellent.

But the coverage unit is almost entirely discipline and coaching.
Too much is made of the ability of these 'special team aces' in my opinion.
The talent level at that part of the roster is not significantly different from team to team, or from year to year.
Stay in your lanes and tackle.
The Bills aren't having a great year, but that team's special teams unit has been at or near the top of the league since they switched special teams coaches in 2004.
Before that time they were terrible.
Players come and go, but the success remains even on an otherwise mediocre team.

For the Vikings, the coaches couldn't get the players to do it last year.
They didn't get them to do it against Cribbs in week one.
But they've been doing it ever since.
When the age of the Vikings came to a close, they must have sensed it. Probably, they gathered together one evening, slapped each other on the back and said, "Hey, good job." - Jack Handey [Deep Thoughts]

    Excellent post my friend.

Love your comment on the return game.
Truth be told I just don't care about that area.
I am more focused on stopping returns when I talk about ST's.
That leads into the stuff you mentioned later (lanes and tackles) but also gets into the kicking/kickers.

Almost a subject that is glossed over IMHO.
