Re: Why so few playaction pass plays called?

You have to sell play action to make it work, and I'm talking about just running with A.D. either. The whole offense...and most of all the Receivers have to act like it's another running play to have good success. Most of the time.....if you are running the football well....the play action pass routes will be open if everybody sells the run to the opposition. Once they bite with 8 men in the box or coming up you've pretty much got them....IF...If you can then execute .

Execution has been a big factor in several of our losses. The right play was called but even after we sold it well...we couldn't make the play.

    IMHO

    Cheers!

I have been asking this since last year.

To their credit, I saw the team with more power formations this week and it looks like they are getting close to pulling them off. IMO if they stick to the two TE, Single back formation we will see a pretty decent offense in a few weeks. It plays to the strengths of our whole offensive roster.

Our only touchdown was off a playaction pass.

We're so advanced we fake the play action, and just run the damn ball.

Re: Why so few playaction pass plays called?

    You guys are right.

    Some observations:

    - We should pound the ball more. (why do we pay $ 30 million for an offensive line and then "zone block" ???).
    - At the same time, I think it is a SIN to not throw Adrian Peterson a screen pass at least 5 times a game ! What are they thinking ?
    - When was the last time the Vikings ran a slant ? I thought that was what we got Wade for ?
    - NFL teams in the red zone (general observation) run too much. Bill Walsh always said, in those situations, the linebackers can tee off too easily on the running backs. So, the answer is play action passing. And the good teams do it (Pats, etc.).

    - NFL teams are too conservative. Watch college football. Way more risk-taking. What I am saying is, when the defense blitzes, why not toss AP the ball and let him throw ? What is the worst thing that can happen, he gets a 45 % completion rate, (like T-Jacks ? ).

Did you guys know that we're #2 in the NFL in rushing?

If you can't build play-action around that, you can't build play-action around anything.

While I agree, we are still going to need a QB who doesn't overshoot our WR's by 10 yards, WR's who get open, and a line that blocks long enough to fake the hand off. In other words: We're screwed at the moment
