I think we should just work on scoring 40 pts a game and we'll be okay.

We probably need to win a minimum of 9.

I am not worried about the QB in our division though.
I am more worried about our D.
If we are giving up the passing yards like last year, we will be a borderline playoff team at best.

    More worried about the D.

Granted we haven't played a single regular season game yet!
Why are you more worried about the D?
The D was tied for 11th in 2007 for the least amount of points given up, the only stat that really matters.
They made improvements in the offseason.
I am not worried about the D at all....unless the injury bug keeps biting.
Definetly not the only stat the matters. Big difference from getting a 3 and out and the team punting from their 20 and having them drive 40 yards punt, and our offense starts inside their 20. Turnovers are important too. Don't forget time of possession, even with the vikings strong running game the still lost the time of possession battle(if the defense can't get off the field the offense can't get on). Oh and 11th scoring defense is pretty middle of the road, they need to do better than that to be contenders.
    Those are all good points.
Still doesn't change the fact that the Vikings were tied for 11th in the least amount of pts given up.
That is not middle-of-the-road, it is at the top third of the league.
Couple that with them scoring more, on average, than they gave up in pts in '07 and you have a team at the cusp of doing things right.
If they are in the top third of the league in defense again and the offense comes around even a little bit they are in the playoffs.

That almost worked in 1998...and in 2007 for the Putzies.

I agree they should make the playoffs, on paper anyways. 32 teams in the league so to be in the top 1/3 you would have to be in the top 10, 11th puts them in the top 34.375%.

The Bleacher Report is just some lame ass blog.
They have attempted to spam the hell out of us as well.
Dude's some little punk Bears fan anyways.

And how the fuck can he say we will not make the playoffs and one of his arguements is that we play in "One of the weakest divisons"?

Let's not post fricken blogs as prophecy here.

Re: "Why the Minnesota Vikings Will Miss the Playoffs"

The only thing stopping the Vikings is injuries and this case can be made for every team in the NFL. I think its important that we stay healthy on the lines and keep our playmakers on the field (Berrian and Rice). I find it comical to read an article like this one, anything to bring about a negative light.

For starters Tarvaris is still a young guy but he's already proven that winning games and making strides is what he does. His biggest issue right now is just staying healthy and avoiding those injuries. Gus with the help of top WR's Berrian and Rice should do just fine in his role if Tarvaris is unable.

Peterson is a luxury to have but IMO as long as we are doing the blocking all of backs will have great sucess regardless of wether Peterson is injured, does a healthy Peterson improve our chances, probably. Although Chester and Hicks are very capable.

The defense has the opportunity to be great but again injuries can play a role here, but right now I feel very confident in this defense, one that was very good last year without Jared Allen. I look for the defense to dominate opponents.

All in all I think this guy is lame, his only real arguement to us missing the playoffs would be injuries. IMO Playoffs is evident what I'm curious about is wether we can seal up home field advantage, missing the playoffs is out of question.

Agreed! Lame article based on the assumptions from the past.
Besides, how do you miss the playoffs when you win the NFCN.
I don't see anyone else winning it.
Green Bay being good with Rodgers instead of Favre is a pipe dream.

Re: "Why the Minnesota Vikings Will Miss the Playoffs"

I actually agree with the analysis that Tarvaris was not accurate enough in 2007.

    HOWEVER:

    a. This is a new season and Tarvaris has improved
    b. His receivers are far better now
    c. The D-line is going to just maul people
    d. This team is way too stacked with about 7 Pro Bowlers, to miss the playoffs. (AP, Hutch, Birk, Pat, Kevin, Antwoine, etc.). Teams with 6 or 7 Pro Bowlers tend to go into the playoffs and then do well in them. This is what Bill Walsh always said ("you need 6 or 7 Pro Bowlers to win the Show").

I just don't see us losing until say, the NFC Championship.

I still have not drunk the Cool-Aide on Tarvaris yet, but I think it is massive stretch to say that because of him, we won't make the playoffs.

Who did the Ravens have at QB when they got their ring ?
    Answer: Trent Dilfert.

Another question: is Eli that accurate ? I have my doubts. And right now, he is chilling out with his Super Bowl Ring that says "Manning" on it.

Well, I seem to remember many dropped passes for Wideouts and even 3 TDs from our starting tight end. This area will be shored up this year !!
Any matter can be resolved over a few coldies.
