On paper the Minnesota Vikings look good, if not great, except for one position, quarterback. Tarvaris Jackson has the tools to be the best quarterback in the NFC North, but hasn't proven himself to me just yet. Everybody is talking about how he is the weak link, but I'm going deeper into their problems.

Pretty much the same stuff...

It is totally possible.

We still need to play all 16 games yet.
We probably need to win a minimum of 9.

I am not worried about the QB in our division though.
I am more worried about our D.
If we are giving up the passing yards like last year, we will be a borderline playoff team at best.

More worried about the D.

Granted we haven't played a single regular season game yet!

why the vikings will miss the playoffs? simple! They don't have Brett Favre! LOL
Juuuuuuuuuuuuust kidding. Hey, instead of the Vikings, how 'bout we ponder the question, how can the packers POSSIBLY squeek into the wild card? LOL (Skoooooool Jets!)

The D was tied for 11th in 2007 for the least amount of points given up, the only stat that really matters.
They made improvements in the offseason.

Definetly not the only stat the matters. Big difference from getting a 3 and out and the team punting from their 20 and having them drive 40 yards punt, and our offense starts inside their 20. Turnovers are important too. Don't forget time of possession, even with the vikings strong running game the still lost the time of possession battle(if the defense can't get off the field the offense can't get on). Oh and 11th scoring defense is pretty middle of the road, they need to do better than that to be contenders.

The Vikings have a better chance of making the playoffs without Favre than the Packers do.

I disagree also... we may have been 11th, but we allowed opposing teams to eat-up the clock against us. There were a few games where an extra 20 seconds and we would have won.

Yes, that is true.
But our average scoring production was higher than the pts given up last year and we lost some close games.
At the cusp of breaking through.
This year Tarvaris is not a first year starter, we have an improved WR corps...so, potentially better point production.
Consider the improvements on the defensive side of the ball and I assume that the D will be in the top 10 regarding pts given up.
Put those together and there is optimism in the air.
The D will be fine, I have absolutely no worries about it if the injuries stay at a minimum.
Now, I expect there to be some faltering now that the pass rush is a little more prominent and that will result in a little slippage from the #1 spot against the run.
I just can't buy into the doom and gloom crowd about the team.
Just doesn't make sense.
