By most people's posts on here, I guess it takes around 3 years for a QB to be NFL ready, so assuming we hit the jackpot this year and actually get a good QB, he won't be ready for 3-4 years. We will NOT win a superbowl with AP on this team. We had our chance 2 years ago, and we blew it. Our defense is falling apart, our o-line is shit, our receiving corp is over rated, and we have no QB. We are in a full-on rebuilding mode and we need to build around a QB and O-line. No one wins Super bowls because they have a great RB. Maybe a great RB and a great D, but we only have one of those.

I'm not an advocate of trading AP, but I wouldn't be pissed if we did.
I think it's possible we win a superbowl.
Things change quickly in the NFL. Teams routinely go from 6-10 to 10-6 and vice versa. You can't bank on any team being bad or any team being really good(the articles contention that the Packers have a dynasty or will be great for the next 5 years is a joke).

I think Randy Moss is a good example of what I'm talking about. When they traded Moss they were rebuilding, they wanted the draft picks. Nobody thought they were going to be in contention to win a superbowl. In hindsight though, we know the draft picks we got were busts, and had we kept him he might have been the difference in 09.

Do you think we stand a better chance to win a superbowl in that same time period without him?

I'm all for thinking about the future, but you can't think too far.

In a normal year you could use him for picks to go up and get a franchise quarterback. That may be a good move providing the QB a true top prospect.

But this year there are no QB's like that in the draft, and the draft may take place without the ability to trade players.

    Crappy year for Vikings fans.

We better keep AD. At least we will have something exciting to watch next time we have football.

And I agree with IBP, AD will be a huge help to a Rookie or Webb, should they be the QB.

I do not like the notion of trading AP. While we may get some picks and players that help. In all likelihood we will get a few that werent worth it. In the end we are better off with him than without. Especially given the fact that until we do get a franchise QB, a strong running game and a stout defense are our only chances at winning this division. Again, we can do it via the draft to patch some holes and from there we have to take our chances with what we have.

Maybe I am the eternal optomist, but I think we arent as far away from a return winning football as others may think. I believe all the turmoil we put on ourselves played into our ineffectiveness. A stud on each line will cure alot of ills.

Trading one of the best players in the league for draft picks almost always pays off. Remember when we traded Moss? That worked out really well.

Re: Why the Minnesota Vikings Should Trade AP

    We just need a runningback.

Lets look at the teams that made the championship games the past few years.

    2010:
Green Bay: Top-3 quarterback, no runningback
    Chicago: Good runningback, decent QB
New York: Capable QB, great RB
Pittsburgh: Top D, Great QB, ok RB

    2009:
    Minnesota: Best RB, Great QB
    NO: No RB, Top-5 QB
New York: Capable QB, great RB, top D
    Indy: Best QB, decent RB

    2008:
    Arizona: Great QB, no RB
Philly: Good QB, good RB, good D
Pittsburgh: great QB, no RB, top D
Baltimore: Capable QB, decent RB, top D

So, from what I'm seeing from the top teams, there's no team there without a good RB AND a good QB.

If you don't have a good RB, you've better have a good QB, or a fantastic defense.

Trading away AP, without a QB will leave us in a terrible position.

The worst QB to win a superbowl in recent memory is Trent Dilfer. The Ravens had the luxury of one of the best all-time defenses, and a beast of a RB (Jamal Lewis).

The best QB's to win superbowls (Montana, Brady, Manning) seem to have been able to do it without a really standout RB (Although, the 49ers had Roger Craig, I think he's highly overrated, and really gets alot of credit for being a 49er)

Besides, there is no way Favre is coming back if we don't have Peterson.

Look at who won the Super Bowls though. Saints (no RB), Pukers (no RB), Pittsburgh (no RB) all according to you. All those teams have great QBs. We don't. We need to get one and if one falls in our lap, or we have to reach for one, that would be great. I would personally rather roll with Webb this year and draft Luck or the top QB next year if Webb tanks. I realize that if we don't have AP we are a shit team, but we're basically a shit team right now anyways.

Someone on here said that when we traded Moss, we just got busts. Well that was just shitty drafting, if we had a good draft the trade woulda been worth it. We could have had Aaron Rodgers and Roddy White. Or Demarcus Ware. It wasn't a bad trade, it was just bad drafting.

I'd much rather have stability at the QB position for 15 years than at RB for 4 more years. If we could trade AP for Matt Ryan or Bradford I'd do that in a heartbeat. Those teams are set at QB for years. We are screwed until we get a QB.

And I disagree with IBP that the Jets have a "great RB".

Jets had Thomas Jones, who had a "Great" season. They also had Leon washington and Shonn greene

They had the #1 run game in the nfl that season. That's a pretty damn good run game.
