No doubt!!! Hands-down the worst game in Viking's History."ejmat" wrote:
No doubt, that was pathetic. The Vikings had the most potent offense in the history of the NFL that year and they were sitting on the ball during that game. That has to be one of the most poorly coached games of all time. Maybe it was rigged and Denny made some coin on the side, that would make sense.I say it's without a doubt Les Steckel. Can't stand him. Denny's knee against Atlanta and his "Play not to lose" aspect the rest of that game gives us the right to acknowledge him too but the fat is we made the playoffs many years with him as a coach. I didn't think he was all that great but I can't take that away from him. I will never forgive him for that Atlanta game. That was by far his fault. You don't play a team 17 games going down the field and all of the sudden ask them to throw 3 yard passes for the second half of a football game and take a knee on the 40 yard line with 40 seconds left with Cunningham as a QB and Moss, Reed and Carter as WRs. That puts him in the category of idiotic.

Agreed! Burnsie was definitely #2...didn't do squat with Herschel when he had him...Walker might not have been the best...but dang, Burns needed to make that trade work out for us so that it didn't look so lopsided!!!Les was the worst coach the Vikes have ever had! He lost the team before they left training camp, and was doomed from the start! The players wouldn't play for him, and they had to bring Bud Grant back the next year to save the team from collapsing.
The second worse coach was Jerry Burns! The players were running the team because of lack of any discipline, and the team had completely broken down. They had to bring Denny Green in as the new sheriff in-town to right the organization.
As bad a job as Tice did, he leaves a team that has talent and is close to being a contender. That is more than Steckle or Burns did and Tice was given a bad situation with no support from Red!
I see Tice getting a chance to be a head coach again a few years down the road, I think he will do better job the second time around. I just hope that we win a championship before he does!BANNED OR DEAD...I'LL TAKE EITHER ONE

Re: Who was the worse Vikings coach in franchise history?
Actually, Norm Van Brocklin did pretty well with the Falcons in the early 70's after leaving the Vikings. And that's was because he hated Fran Tarkington. He resigned before they traded Fran.
Bud was da Bomb
Les...uh...well...he sucked
But he is working
I saw him in the booth for Denver or somebody...wasn't that impressed
I kinda liked Mr. Burns... not like Smithers does, but he seemed distracted
I liked Green because he got respect from the players, but he botched up when he took a knee against Atlanta
Tice could have used one more year and then if he couldn't do it...bye-byeYah know a cave is really just a hole on its side
