Who on This Team Could Have Played for Bud Grant?
Alot of talk about certain players playing for certain coaches..."he's a Parcells guy, or a Dungy guy, or a Shanahan guy," etc.
I am interested in others' perspective regarding this Vikes roster and whether or not there are alot of players (or few) who could have played for Bud.
He is the coach who built Champions (albeit NFC) with "his types of players."
I realize alot of it has to do with the system, however, if you broke Bud's rules, you were gone, or, you sat.
Wuddya boys think?

I dont think any of them could have played for Bud..they're all too young!
:P
Re: Who on This Team Could Have Played for Bud Grant?
Bud was a coach who ran first and threw second. He came from that Gopher era when the slogan was "3 yards and a cloud of dust." I see that same kind of thinking in Childress's coaching so I don't see a lot of difference between Gran't idea of good players and the way Childress is building the present team.
I think Grant likes the way Childress is building this team. So to answer your question specifically much of our offensive and defensive line would have made Grant's squad.

Didn't Grant release Alan Page in the middle of 78 season, one of the reasons was he was too old at 33 or 34?

I believe weight was the big issue.
He went on to play for the Bears for 3 more years after that 1/2 season.
One of Bud Grants mistakes IMO. Page should have retired a Viking.
Re: Who on This Team Could Have Played for Bud Grant?
Bud and Allen Page had a disagreement on Page's playing weight. Bud didn't like how much weight AP had shed in the off season. AP said he was just as strong and felt faster and healthier at the lighter weight. Bud said bulk back up, Page said no,...poof AP is wearing a Bear's jersey. I think in retrospect Bud would have liked to have reconsidered that decision!

Hutch, Birk, Rice (he seems like he has a good head on his shoulders) and a few more I can't think of at the moment.

I'm not sure about Mckinnie, after his boat thing and he can be slow off the ball against a fast end.
I think Bud would have run him into the ground.
