Thread: Who is the best Vikings running back of all time?

The choices I would include to choose from are Chuck foreman,Robert smith and Adrian peterson.

1st off lets look at the complete package.

Chuck foreman could block.could catch and could run
Robert smith could catch some and could run but not a good blocker
Adrian peterson can run but cant block and doesnt catch alot
I give this to Chuck foreman

2nd .Running surfice
All can run great AP and R.S ran on truf for the most part where as Chuck foreman ran on grass for the majority of the games he playd and in much worse weather and was able to convert 3rd downs alot more compared to the other 2.
Again id give this to C.F

3rd.Lack of support.
Both R.S and C.F had great support in both the o-lines and QB's and WR'S and coaches,AP dosnt have hardley any support at all on offense save the left side of the o-line
Id give this to AP for doing what hes doing with almost no support.

4th.Bigger impact on the team
C.F lead the Vikings at least a year or more in receptions which helped not only to convert on 3rd downs but to also keep our defense on the sidelines so they can rest but also helped keep the oppents offense on the sideline as well.Also it kept a linebacker watching him on passing situations instead of blitzing the QB.When he did stay in the back field during passing downs he helped blocking which gave the QB a half second or so more to throw the ball which is huge.None of the other 2 gave/give
these to the offense.
I gave this to C.F

5TH.speed.
This is close between R.S and A.P but id give the edge to R.S

6TH.moves.
Each one had great moves but id give this edge to A.P

Over all Id pick C.F

Remeber this is all in fun which we need sometimes apart from the more negitive and seriours theads latley.Who would you guys and gals choose and why?

It's between Chuck Foreman and Adrian Peterson if you ask me. Robert Smith put up good numbers, but remember that he played on a very good team. Chuck Foreman had the complete package, he could block, he was a workhouse, he was consistent, he was a beast running with the ball, and he was a great receiver. Adrian Peterson is the best pure runner and I will most likely say he's the best Vikings RB of all-time if he has another good year.

Excellent analysis.
I would add maybe two more points:

Predicabilty:
Both CF and AP suffer under this one.
The schemes they play(ed) under are easily diagnosed by defenses and causes real problems for both.
RS played under a wide open scheme that kept defenses honest which is why RS is the king of the screen.

Durability:
I have to give this one to CF.
For the longest time CF WAS our offense (CF left, CF right, pass to CF over the middle, punt) yet he hung in there game after game, like the energizer bunny.

I agree that CF gets the nod.

I thought about those 2 as well as ted brown but I wanted to keep it to 3 but if you want to pick them then thats cool.By the way my grandpa used to bowl with bill brown at the park taveren in St louis park.
