FSN North will be airing a Vikings weekly show, right. So when does it start? Anyone know?

FSN, Vikings strike cable deal

Coach Brad Childress won't have his own television show, but that doesn't mean the Vikings will be keeping a low media profile this season.
It will be announced today that FSN North will become the franchise's first cable partner ever. Neither side would reveal terms of the agreement Thursday.

"We really felt there was a need for additional programming in the marketplace," said Steve LaCroix, the Vikings' vice president of sales and marketing. "This was a good first step toward expanding our broadcast initiatives."

FSN North's plans include a year-round, half-hour show each week that will debut Aug. 24; a half-hour program each weekday during training camp in Mankato (July 28-Aug. 17); live coverage of weekly news conferences; postgame shows following several regular-season games; and coverage from next year's draft party.
Quarterback Brad Johnson has signed a deal with FSN North to be part of the programming. Edina native Ann Carroll, who has been working at the CBS affiliate in St. Louis, will return home to become FSN's primary Vikings reporter.

Mike Dimond, general manager of FSN North, said the weekly show will cover plenty of territory.

"It will expose you to parts of the organization you wouldn't necessarily get exposed to," he said. "Community outreach initiatives, a little bit of what goes on in the front office."

This agreement does not include the team's preseason games. KSTP (Ch. 5) is entering the last year of its contract with the Vikings for those rights; KSTP also will continue airing an hour-long Vikings show at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays.

As for Childress, it has been decided he won't have a standalone TV show in 2006.

"We'll look to address that in future seasons," LaCroix said, adding the coach could end up making occasional appearances on KSTP or FSN's programming.

Childress will have a regular presence on radio, appearing on the Vikings' flagship station, KFAN (1130-AM), from 6 to 7 p.m. each Monday during the season. Paul Allen, who calls Vikings' games on the station, will host.

Damn!! Dish Network doesn't offer the season ticket for football :sad: . Another season of watching the Vikes in the bar; I'm getting too old for this shit.

Yup - never has, either. DirectTV has an exclusive agreement with the NFL to carry NFL Sunday Ticket. Which, IMHO, is the NFL shooting themselves in the as$, because you've frozen 95% of the viewing public out of ordering a package on their CABLE subscriptions.

Well - not a worry for me now - since I'm back in Viking viewing land after 20 years on the East Coast.

You're one lucky fan then. I took it for granted that I could watch every MN sporting event when I lived there, but now I'm stuck watching the Seahawk/Sonic/Mariners all the time :sad: . It does seem a little weird that the NFL would sign exclusive rights over to anyone.

I did 4 years of college in Massachusetts. Nothing but Red Sox, Patsies, Bruins and Celtics. Many BRUTAL Sunday afternoons spent listening to Joe Willy Namath doing color commentary on AFC East games. Ick.

Then I did 5 years in NYC. 1pm: Giants 4pm: Jets - wash, rinse, repeat. A sports bar with satellite dishes opened up in approx. '93 and they showed all the games - what a revelation! I also would go down to Mickey Mantle's bar in 59th street to watch the Vikes-Packers games.

Then I did 10 years outside DC in Northern VA. My house was 3 miles from Redskins Park, so you can imagine that it was all Redskins, all the time. The day that Joe Gibbs came back, the press conference was carried LIVE on ALL broadcast channels. My local Irish pub had the Sunday Ticket and put the Vikes on a good TV for me (and the 1 or 2 other Vikes fans who showed up) so that worked out, to a certain extent.

And now I'm here - in bucolic Apple Valley. And Vikes stuff is everywhere and I'm buying one of my uncle's season tickets and LIFE IS GOOD.

So I definitely feel your pain, brother.
