Re: What's the 98 deal?

Comparing how you become a Viking fan between old timers and newbies is apples and oranges.
When I became a Viking fan, I lived in Brainerd.
I had no computer, no internet, no satellite, no color TV, no remote for the TV.

We had a crappy antena on the roof with a booster to pick up the 4 fuzzy channels from the Twin Cities.
If you wanted to watch any football on TV, you watched the Vikings since it was the only game on.

Kinda difficult to become a fan of another team through a newspaper.

It's not like you come out of your mother wearing a Vikings jersey.
Speak for yourself.
I knew someone would say that.
I wanted to, but I could not. I was born in 1959, two years before the Vikings even became a franchise..

TV was mostly in B&W back then, not color. I don't even recall the 1st Vikings game I watched in color.

Moss didn't get his ring and some of the 98ers are having a tough time coping.
I thought I would bring this thread back up so the love can be felt by all.

Is it just me or does anyone else notice that some fans here seem to be more upset about Moss not getting his ring than they are about any facet of the Vikings or them missing the playoffs?

Just had to swat the hornet's nest, eh?

This week attention should be geared towards the fact that CRIS Carter did not make the HoF.

A swat to the hornet's nest is fine, the idiots get bitten while the wise run for cover.

Because Moss was drafted by the Vikings in '98,
silly.

And it's well documented that most older fans don't like Moss.
That is completely false.
Most fans liked Moss when he was on the team.
He left.
People that have been around have seen a lot of good players come and go and they continue to follow the team.
There is a group of fans that whined, and some continue to, about a single player leaving the team.
It's not about not liking Moss, it's about moving on.

We all began to like the Vikings for a variety of reasons, no problem with that.
The folks that follow the team for the sake of an individual player come and go.
I, for one, won't shed a tear when they leave.
Most of us on this site are here for the long haul, which will make the SB championship that much sweeter.
Well documented my ass.
I was and still am a huge fan of Randy.

As Proph said, its all about the team with me and not individual players.

Truth be told, it is well documented that it is almost impossible to convince a fan of a player that it is in the (in most cases) best interest of the team to let old, aging, non productive players go.

By the way, excellent post Proph.
Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg
