WHAT WILL THE BEARS AVERAGE STARTING POSITION BE?

With Elling kicking, what will the Bears average starting position be following Aaron's Kickoffs.

I am saying for the day that the Bears start on average from their own 37 yard line.

I'm just hoping he can keep them in Chicago territory. Realistically I think we will keep them somewhere around the 34 yard line. I'd be shocked if it were inside the 30.

Tice addresses the problem on special teams, except he blames the coverage units and doesn't address the fact that we have probably the worst kickoff man (I am using that term losely) and punter combination in the league!!!

    Special teams bother Tice

    BY SEAN JENSEN

    Pioneer Press

With his third unit not entirely so special through the first two games, Vikings coach Mike Tice insisted on getting more involved this week.

He and assistant linebackers coach Pete Bercich, a former standout special-teams player, intervened Thursday to offer their insight to the Vikings' young kickoff coverage and return units.

Tice believed it was necessary because the Vikings gave up a 62-yard return in the season opener and two 40-yard-plus returns Monday night to Philadelphia Eagles safety J.R. Reed, including a 43-yarder with less than four minutes to go that doomed the Vikings' slim comeback hopes.

Tice has emphasized consistency and awareness on special teams, and he re-emphasized that during an emphatic and colorful video session earlier in the week.

"We have to understand if we don't play good special teams, we're not going to win because nine out of the last 10 Super Bowl champions were ranked in the top 10 in special teams," Tice said. "It's pretty plain and simple."

There are a handful of special-teams categories, and Tice said his team is ranked in the top 10 in only two of them.

"Two of them," he said. "That's it. That's ridiculous."

Tice has added many starters onto special teams.

Linebacker Raonall Smith, who leads the Vikings with five special-teams tackles, said the key is footwork and focus.

"Speed is not the issue," he said. "It's a matter of recognizing what we're doing to us and making the play. The effort is there."

Tice will put Elling on the juice and he will kick nothing but touchbacks this week, so I would say the average starting position will be their 20.

I would say somewhere between the 30-35 yard mark.
