Re: What Went Right? What Went Wrong? Panthers Game

Right: The defense was great. Today was a proving day of sorts for our D. They proved that they are a very solid unit, holding the Panthers down when we needed a big stop. They delivered hugely. Troy Williamson also had a huge game for us, he needed to redeem himself because of last week and did great. Chester Taylor looked really good out there, it should squelch the critics saying that he is not a feature back. He made the right cuts, fought for the extra yards, and wore down that defense.

Wrong: The O-line didn't look very sharp. However we played against a very good defense with a top 5 d-line, protection should be better next week when they don't have to face up with Julius Peppers. Special teams again had a huge error. You can't let your kicks get blocked, those are huge momentum changers, and missing that kick could have cost us the territory. The offence didn't look very good when we got into scoring range, we need to turn those field goals into touchdowns. The offence had chewed up tons of yards, but they just couldn't punch it in the endzone and that has got to change.

well chester hit the century mark, but the line gave up a million sacks, so that evens out.
    couple turnovers for both sides.
got some balls down range, yay Troy.
were still need to be able to get some explosiveness on the offense going, other than longwell.
our defense needs to put more pressure on the qb so they can start throwing picks.
we dont have any yet this year do we?

we will definately have to have our A game on next week.
penalties kill us, especially at home where they shouldn't be happening.
i'm actually scared about next weeks game against the chipmunks.
if our D doesn't stop their, i'm still not a believer in their offense, we won't have a prayer.

    What went right?
The defense came out in the 2nd half just like last week and allowed only THREE points again.
That is exactly what you want from both your players and your coaching staff.
You go in to the locker room at halftime, make some smart adjustments and then come back and basically shut down the other team.

    Offensively, 3 for 3 on 4th downs.
Not only will converting those keep a drive going and get the Dome crowd excited, it also shows the offense that the coaching staff believes in their ability to get the tough yards.
That will play big dividends later on in the season.

    What went wrong?
Last week's strength was this week's horror - 3rd down.
2 for 15 on 3rd down yesterday, which is atrocious.

    What was unexpected?
Ryan Longwell having a higher passing rating than either Brad Johnson or Jake Delhomme.

Right: Again, I like the energy level. 60 minutes plus this week.
BJ takes a beating and keeps on tickin.
Determination and will. I love that. It ain't over til it's over mentality.
    Fake out field goal. Hehehehe.

Wrong: Too many sacks. Too many penalties. Too many missed tackles.
2nd Quarter slump. Intentional grounding? BJ!!!!!!!!!

    Unexpected:
BJ throws an interception.....yeh, not what I expected.
    Fake out field goal.
No personal foul called on Jake for shoving Napo.

Oh, and on a side note......Maas gets on my nerves. What an eejit for implying that fox didn't approve that ill fated play. What did he think...that the player came up with that himself? ugh.

Personally, I don't think there is intelligent life on other planets. Why should other planets be any different from this one?

I was wondering about that too.
Jake was a whining wussy on that play.
So, he got a little love tap during the celebration....who cares.

When do you *ever* see things called on QBs?
They bop their heads and shuffle their feet pre-snap, ground the ball constantly and complain if they get brushed.
Say what you want about Terry Bradshaw as a commentator, but he was a tough SOB in the pocket who didn't need some stripey-shirt to protect him.

    Very true!
I recall many games where they carried Bradshaw off the field and he always came back to win.
    He is/was a tough competitor.
