Kevon, I agree with you on nickel back, but think that is where we spend some Free Agent money. I like Verner or Davis, both young enough to sign a 5 year deal, and possibly continue to improve their games, but also with the experience needed to understand and anticipate the plethora of underneath routes the NB deals with. Maybe they start outside but slide inside on obvious passing downs.
I don't like Raji. Look how fat and out of shape he looks here, even his face is bloated.
And, more importantly, he graded very negative on PFF: https://www.profootballfocus.com/blo...ior-d-linemen/
As in, 2nd worst of the whole bunch! D'oh!!
I'd rather sign Linval Joseph, if you want to stay young, or even Hatcher or Starks for maybe 3 instead of 5 years. I'd also resign K-Will if he'll play for about 3.5/year. Also, resign Everson Griffen, and draft a smaller/faster pass rush specialist...you can never have too many pass rushers or DL in general for your rotation.
Depending on how they feel about our two late round picks on OG last year, maybe we sign a vet LG too. I just think a vet upgrade on Charlie might do wonders for both Peterson and the QB's confidence (i.e. more time to look down field and find the open guy.) How about Jon Asamoah? Another young guy coming off of his first contract. Good run and pass blocking, but has played more RG than Left...
Summing it all up...
Sign a starter at NCB, DT, LG and some sort of vet QB not named Ponder.
Draft QB, CB, S, DT, DE, a late RB and probably a LB or two as well, and not necessarily in that order.
I'm not against Boyd, but the reports out of Senior Bowl were not encouraging..."inaccurate and erratic, spraying the ball all over the field," and throwing an ugly interception early in the game. I'd rather grab Mettenberger or Garappolo and then spend a 5 or 6 on Boyd if he's still there.
Control the line, control the time, and give your D a chance to shine!!
