What Type of Stadium Do You Prefer?

We're talking about the players being men, who are paid to win games and play in whatever weather conditions are necessary. As far as fans go, if they (we) are paying to watch the game, it should be as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. And to RK, you do make a good point about not having won a Super Bowl in the cold. However, considering two outdoor, cold weather teams will be playing for the Super Bowl and three of four teams in the Conference Championship games were cold weather teams, not to mention that no matter who wins this years Super Bowl, it will mean a cold weather team which plays in an outdoors stadium has won 7 of the last 9 Super Bowls. It is reasonable to say that playing outdoors in the cold does have its advantages. And superstars not wanting to play in the cold ... Terrell Owens, Donovan McNabb, Tom Brady, Corey Dillon and so on will argue that just isn't so. Also a fact, the St. Louis Rams are the only Dome team to ever win the Super Bowl, so, it reinforces the outdoors point of the argument. And one win in Green Bay (although it was a sweet win) does not make up for the 3-21 record (after losing to the iggles) in the last 24 outdoor games.

They play the bowls in domes and warm weather places because the superbowl has turned more into a circus of halftime shows, advertisements and profit making than a good football game. If there was snow everywhere, we would all enjoy it at home, but I think a lot of businesses would suffer.

I think they should have a superbowl in Denver, Buffalo, Green Bay, Cleveland, somewhere that in late January, early February you've got a good possibility of snow.

Those are definitely the best games to watch are the ones in snow. Why not make the superbowl like that?

This is pretty close here. We need an open stadium. For the simple fact that many of you have pointed out: We will play better on the road/outdoors! If some people won't go to the games anymore because it is cold, then other fans will take their place. Other teams do not have any problems getting fans in the stadium when its cold.

The Vikes have been pampered long enough in the Dome. Look at our record outdoors on the road! Isn't it 3-20 in the past few years? And the only place we have won is GB during that streak. Correct me if I am wrong.

There are only 6 dome teams in the NFL
    Colts
    Rams
    Saints
    Falcons
    Lions
    Vikings

4 of those teams went to the playoffs this year and the Saints almost did. 2/3rds of the dome playing teams. Maybe they aren't as bad as some of you think. Also how often do we play in a dome on the road? This year twice. Detroit and New Orleans. All the rest of the games are played outdoors. So the question should be, are we bad as an outdoor team or bad on the road? The natural grass stat is just an oddity IMO. It has nothing to do with playing in a dome or being a dome team. :P In fact you could say dome teams are doing way better at reaching the playoffs than stadium teams.

do you guys not realize what you're proposing? You're saying that you should have open air to bring back the glory days of old when men were real men, but then you turn a 180 and say that you should have heated seats?
No, we're talking about heating for the stands, not for the players. Go back to any NFL Films production talking about a Vikings game of old, and you will hear interviews of opponents talking about how cold and miserable they were, and how they were shocked to look across the field and see the Vikings players energized and ready to take off heads, not bundled up at all. When you live in Minnesota, you learn to deal with the cold better than anybody else in the States can.

As far as RK's assertion that an open air stadium will make it hard to attract free agents, two points:

    1) Philly, New England, and Green Bay have open-air stadiums and cold weather, and they don't have any problem attracting players.

    2) Free Agents ALREADY don't want to come to Minnesota, because the weather is going to be cold regardless! Yeah they might be nice and warm during the 3+ hours of weekly gametime, but they're going to deal with the elements the other six days of the week. The stadium's construction is not going to change that fact one way or the other.

As for people saying that we can say goodbye to our passig game with an open-air stadium, how about this: Fran Tarkenton. His passing game was fantastic playing in open-air, and we all know that Daunte can throw the ball as well as Fran could.

I hope you are kidding
What about the Texans? I guess they are 1/2 dome stadium since they can choose whether or not to close the roof.

One rebuilding year (perhaps) outdoors would be worth it to make our team good outside of the dome.
