    Re: For what it's worth, on Onterrio Smith

    For what its worth I would like to say I still love you Onterrio. I will still support you now when you need it the most. Like Michael Bennett said you are still a brother to me. After all he is just a human being, maybe not the brightest crayon in the box, but I will still support the guy.

    I have noticed a lot of argument on whether or not Smith should be suspended due to the nature of pot itself, that it is a not an enhancement drug like steroids. As someone who has used and enjoyed pot in the past, I think I can safely answer this one.

    YES, SUSPEND HIM.

    Folks, I have used pot in the past, and enjoyed it enough to want to return to it if I could. But, I quit 3 years ago when my wife had surgery and had to quit smoking cigarettes. We are both smoke-free, due to our concern for smoking's side-effects. Plus, the illegality of smoking pot. And therein lies my argument.

    Smoking pot is currently illegal in this country, like it or not. If I smoke pot and am caught, I will suffer the consequences of my actions. I am of an age in which I do not want to have such consequences adversely affect my life, so, I made the decision to walk away from pot.

    If I, with my undistinguished little life and world that I live in, can do this, what does it say about Onterrio Smith (SOD:Still On Drugs), who had a world almost all of us would trade our life for in an instant, and threw it away because he selfishly ignored not only the rules of the NFL, but of the USA?

    If you think that pot should not be a factor in the lives of NFL players, that pot use should not be punishable by law, then get out there and join the groups that are fighting to legalize it. I wish you well.

    But to argue in favor of Onterrio Smith, that he should not be punished for smoking pot, is, in my humble opinion, just a way of calling people like me who kicked the habit, foolish. I have to obey the laws of the land. So does Onterrio.

    He, and to an extent, Randy Moss, put themselves above the team. I would prefer a team of merely good players who busted their asses every play of every game, and obeyed the rules, than a team of great ones who 'played when they want to play'.

    <Steps off soapbox>
    Well I, for one, congratulate you on your successful life alteration. I hope your wife has recovered from whatever she was stricken with, and I wish you both continued health.

    I also - for the record - agreed wholeheartedly with your post (Minus the Moss blurb...but we'll let that slide). Thanks for putting a "Real Person" perspective on it.

    Oddly enough, I find myself in complete agreement with Purplehorn.

    Onterrio Smith is officially the SOD--- (Stonner Of the Draft.) He is gunna be one sad dude... he is pretty much Ricky Williams little brother except Ricky Williams was smarter and left the NFL to go smoke his pot, but Onterrio would rather just get suspended time and time again! I thought Onterrio had a great shot to be the starting running back... but he is obviously proven that you can not have ANY faith in him. Go Michael Bennett and for the love of God, STAY HEALTHY!!!

    The guy needs to get some major help, I mean now it seams even "Refer Ricky" misses football and wants to come back in play. He must have either gotten his priorities straight or ran out of money.
