AP was a much better draft choice for the Minnesota Vikings.
Quinn would have been a good choice as well.
It is really hard to say whether or not he would have made more of an impact for the Vikings.
One can argue that we already had two decent RBs, and were need a QB.
But on the flip side, Quinn will never evolve into the game breaker that AP will.
Short term: Brady Quinn would have been a better choice
Long Term: AP is the better choice.
How many RBs will pass through NE while Brady is QB?

Thanks to Josdin for the awesome sig!

There are a lot of good WR in next year's draft. There was a thread on that a bit ago. Go to: http://www.footballsfuture.com/2008/nfl/freeagentsWR.htmlNo on Calvin. I am glad we picked up AP. I wanted Calvin at first but AD is a better fit. I think if we pick up a solid WR and OL in FA and a good OL in the draft we will be OK. Good things to come I think. Is there going to be any good WR available in FA next year?
But I think the overriding factor and the reason I posted this thread is do we have a QB that can pass to our WR?Kentucky Vikes Fan

When you require nothing, you get nothing; when you expect nothing, you will find nothing; when you embrace nothing, all you will have is nothing.

Re: What If The Vikings Had Drafted Calvin Johnson...
LOL,
Quinn is less proven than TJ at this point.
Quinn wouldn't be ready and Brooks would have started game one and two. TJ and AP are both going to have to grow up together.
If TJ doesn't work out, there is always Trent Dilfer.
I think that a franchise RB will go a long way for the Vikes.
I think that it is something that we have to sit back and let our choices play out. We just need to find our Troy Aikman.
The worst part about not drafting CJ, taken before our turn to pick,
is that he ended up in our division.
We just have to hope and pray that the Lions don't find their Troy Aikman before we do or anytime while CJ is playing in a Lions uniform.

Point is there is no sure thing.
Try to quantify that.
I hate to use Troy and Emmit, but that was
great combo that went the distance.
The Patriots offense doesn't seem to value a RB or any position other than QB.
If McNabb won a Super Bowl you could add McNabb and Westbrook to a long lasting combo.
With FA, it is difficult to get guys to stay on one team.
It could have been Brady and Curtis Martin as the dynamic duo in Pats-land if they valued the RB/QB combo.

On the planet of what if the verdict is it would have matterd nothing. I'm happy about AP, and he fits this team well as a high 1st round pick.

Thanks to PPE for the sig.

Re: What If The Vikings Had Drafted Calvin Johnson...
Supposedly, the talk was that all the Trade Rumors up to the draft for the Lions was nothing more than smoke and mirrors.
They had Calvin pegged at number 2 if the Raiders passed on him, and they weren't trading it away for anything.
They claimed they would trade down just to appease their fans who might be irate at 'ANOTHER wide receiver', and then just said they didn't get any good offers.
So, I think this might be a moot point, but fun to discuss nonetheless.
I think our WRs are better than a lot of people think.
It's just physically impossible for them to get open in the nanosecond of time before the pressure forces a throw.

I do not think we can make that assesment right now. We need to see him play a whole season. Then I think we can make judgements. I need to see how he is going to progress with the ups and downs."marstc09" wrote:

Re: What If The Vikings Had Drafted Calvin Johnson...
People tried to focus the problem in one thing cause like blaming someone.
The problem of the Off,is not TJ,the WR,the OLine or the playcalling ,I think its a mix of all of that,we also have a opp team in front,is not the same
playing against the Bears D than the Falcs D for example.Go Vikes!
