Im still a Tjack fan. I believe his athletic skills and rocket arm is too good to let go. I believe this year would be his best, if given the chance.
TJ can scramble and run the ball!
But Vikes have AD for that.

TJ can throw it a mile... but can he hit anything?

Prove to me that TJ can read D's and perform in pressure situations, then I'll believe.
Well, he had pretty good accuracy with balls over 20 yards last season... better than Favre actually.

Granted, Jackson had about 35 less attempts... yet, Favre had 5 TDs and 9 INTs... Jackson had 4 TDs and 0 INTs....

I understand the disparity between attempts... Favre had 51, Jackson had 18... but only one more TD?
If TJack could consistently put up those numbers over a season, I would be fine.
But he hasn't been able to.
Also, it is more correct to say that he had better numbers with passes over 20 yards than Fav-re than to say that he was more accurate.
You can be less accurate and make more completions when your recievers never face double coverage.
After seeing how much he's progressed, I'd like to give him a full year to see if he can.
What record would you be willing to except during that full year?
8-8, 6-10, 4-12... or just when would you pull him?
Vikes bye is week 9... so if the Vikes are 4-4 or less do you continue with him?

I liked what TJ did at the end of the regular season last year, but he collapsed in the playoffs.
If TJ had a 90 rating... I would say "TJ is the MAN"
If TJ had a 80 rating... I would say "I'm confident in TJ, we don't need Sage"
If TJ had a 70 rating... I would say "Better have Sage as a backup"
But TJ had a 45 rating... So I say... "Give me a proven guy! That went to the NFC championships in 2007 and was 8-3 before getting hurt in 2008."

    TJ brought this on himself!
Might have only been one game, but in the playoffs every game is the game that counts.

I think gagarr's post is very short-sited... but to each their own I guess.
    [/quote]

MY MAIN POINT IS: TJ hasn't proven himself enough NOT to stop the Vikes from actively pursueing other options.
They did trading for Sage and when the possibility of Favre came up, they decided to look there too.

I think there would be a HUGE outcry on PPO if the Vikes decided to use CMacD vision and stay with TJ, Gus, and Booty.
No need to upgrade, because TJ deserves a full season, win, lose, or draw.

Re: What if Favre doesn't come?

The only downside I see for the Vikes is the potential to have alienated TJack in this process, and that is assuming he has a breakout year (which I think is VERY possible).

Contract time for TJack could get real pricey, but I would imagine that kind of problem would be of little consequence/import to you Vikes fans... It would mean that he surpassed the expectations of so very many in the land of Purple.

It would be my kind of problem if I were you, but I thought I'd just point that out.

My .02 , with the qualifier that it isn't even going to happen. (Not happen? I get confused with Brent, lol) Brett is coming to Minnesota.

It's not as if they brought someone of Sage's caliber and crowned them the starter.
If that was true, I would expect TJ to get pissed, alienated, etc..
I could even see TJ being miffed if the Vikes brought in Garcia as the unchallenged starter.

But to get alienated when the Vikes bring in a guy of Favre's resume, that would be childish.
The NFL is a "put up or shut up" league, he didn't "put up" last year, so he should shut up, work hard, and learn till he has another chance to "put up".

I agree with you man, but you were using ONE game to justify it, and I certainly can't agree with that.

Regardless of the defense, a 45 QB rating in a playoff game is unacceptable.

I know how excellent there D is, #3 in the NFL.

But I also know there was only one QB to have a worse rating than TJ's 45 all year.... that would be Ken Dorsey.
Also the likes of Kyle Orton had a 72 and Seneca Wallace a 75.

Very strong point. And the major point ...
I don't care if it is the best defense of all time. Playing a shit game is a shit game. No excuses. T-Jack played a shit game when it mattered most.
By the way ... how excellent did that Philly D look just two weeks later when Arizona destroyed it?
Crap is crap ... and T-Jack was crap that game. I don't care if it was against the 85 Bears or the local high school team.
The Eagles were the team we had to play. We knew the strength of their defense and their opportunistic corners. He still decided to throw a fucking duck to the sideline and take a game that was within striking distance and push it to two scores.
Garbage is garbage ... and T-Jack was garbage that day.
