Re: Wetland rules mired stadium plans, Anoka County landowner says

    Not Wilf.
Zygi just inherited it and made a strong push with it.
When it became obvious that it was no longer an option, he scrapped it for the type of development he prefers.
Zygi Wilf took ownership of the Vikings on May 25th, 2005.
At that time, the stadium plan in place was the Anoka deal, made by Red McCombs.
As sure as Wilf (and the partners) purchased the facilities, they also got this plan as part of the ownership transaction.

May is wayyyy too late for them to have tried to do anything in the 2005 legislative session.
When the 2005-06 season came up, Wilf worked the existing deal farther than Red ever did, but lost out to the Twins and Gophers.

Then the Anoka deal started to come apart, with wetlands just being one of the issues - perhaps the final one which made it impossible to do.

And now Zygi's buying up land all around the Metrodome.
I am convinced that that is where the stadium is going to be and that the deal will happen by 2009.

    =Z=

Thanks to Josdin for the awesome sig!

If any of you have ever dealt with a "Wetlands Commission", you know that they can be real roadblocks to anything you might want to do to affect a wetland area.

If Zygi comes in saying he wants to drain the swamp or fill it in to build part of his development, he'd probably get shot down in a heartbeat.

Any of you ever lived around a marsh or swamp?
At times, when things are decaying just right, it smells like an open sewer.
There are often a lot of mosquitos and other bugs.
If Zygi wanted to change any of that, he might have run into problems.

Even with a big developer's money and connections, an independent Wetlands Commission that sticks to its' responsibilites can prevent a lot of development from occuring.

Shit! They build down here on wetlands all the time. They haul in huge mounds of dirt , let it settle & build on it a year or two later. A good portion of Winona's retail businesses, shopping malls, hotels, banks, etc, including the hospital are built on it.

It's still MN. The whole fucking town was built on a sandbar.

Build the stadium around the wetlands and call it
    West Nile Stadium.
