Yeah but the Ed Thorpe trophy is a traveling trophy so it never sat in any trophy cases for too long.

Well gosh darnit, someone should have taken pictures when it was here xD. But wait a minute, 1969 was the last NFL championship so the trophy should still be here.

Ed Thorp Memorial Trophy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The current location of the trophy is unknown. The prevailing theory is that the Minnesota Vikings, who were the last to win the Trophy in 1969, somehow lost it when the league switched over to the Lombardi Trophy the following year.[2] The Vikings after winning the Thorp Trophy went on to face the American Football League champion the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFL-NFL World Championship Game (which is more commonly referred to as Super Bowl IV). The spirit of Ed Thorp is also rumoured to have cursed the Vikings, since they lost the trophy that was named in his honor. To date, the team has lost four Super Bowls.

Maybe they should hire a cleaning service and have them go over everything with a fine tooth comb.It would be nice to have that curse lifted in my lifetime.

Lindy's Pro Football Preview: Overall View Of The Vikings - Daily Norseman

When doing their team rankings, the folks at Lindy's rank teams in nine different categories. . .coach, quarterbacks, running backs, receivers (which includes tight ends), offensive line, defensive line, linebackers, secondary, and special teams. They then throw in something for "intangibles" that ranges from -1.5 to +2 that gets added to the team's overall score.
Overall, Lindy's gives the Vikings a composite score of 66.0, putting them in second place in the NFC North. The teams that rank more highly that the Vikings are the San Francisco 49ers (71.0, the only NFC team to break the 70 mark), Green Bay (68.5), the Dallas Cowboys (67.5), the New Orleans Saints (67.5), and the Atlanta Falcons (67.0). The 66.0 is also equal to the score given to the Washington Redskins, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and. . .surprisingly enough. . .everyone's pre-season darlings this year, the Seattle Seahawks.
You can read the article to see where they graded the different areas of the team. Quick summary is they rank RB , DL and special teams among the highest in the NFL. RB position received a perfect 10, the only one given in any category throughout the NFL...imagine if AD could block where we would be . OL highest in the NFC North. WR wasn't as bad as some might expect, probably due to the grouping of TE's with them. LB was extremely low and the secondary and QB rankings were pretty low as well.

The biggest surprise was probably Seattle with the same overall grade as MN. No breakdown to understand where they were hit.

I'm not superstitious, but we need to find that trophy.

We'll start with the coaching spot, where it appears that Leslie Frazier is starting to get a little bit of love from the media at large. The Vikings' coaches rate a 7.5 on the 1-10 scale. There are 13 teams with a higher ranking, and four other staffs with the same 7.5 rating. There are also nine staffs with an 8.0 rating, so another good season from the Vikings would likely raise Frazier's stock in a lot of people's eyes.
Which means there are 13 teams with a worse coaching ranking than ours. Once you get passed the sugar coating, it means our coaching staff was ranked in the middle. Average. At least in Lindy's eyes.

Yes, which is probably fair. I think the author was pointing out that the coaching staff rankings were on the rise. Amazing what a winning season will do for coaches' rankings. The Vikings go backwards, the coaches will fall in to the suck category, they continue to improve their record including the post season and they will continue to garner respect (from experts and fans alike).

The only coaches that get a pass with a bad record are established guys that move to new teams. Frazier and crew are all still mostly unproven.
