ESPN Radio (I had to listen to SOMETHING on the 4 1/2 hour drive home from the game) brought up an interesting idea. They speculated that the firing had less to do with Tice's performance and capability, and more to do with Wilf's desire to have HIS guy in place. And this got me to thinking, what if Wilf turns out to be more of a Jerry Jones owner than we anticipated? What if instead of simply signing checks and bringing in talent, Zygi actually wants to dip his fingers into the TEAM itself?

After all, if you owned a race car, wouldn't you want to drive it? Just once or twice?

What we DON'T need is a "Yes Sir" Coach brought in (ala Barry Switzer was in Dallas). We need a guy who can run the team...and who is allowed to do so.

Needless to say, a bunch of warning flags just went up, and I will pay very close attention to what happensin the ensuing 9 months.

Oh god no. Please don't let that happen. One thing that I don't want to happen to Zygi. Stay a good owner please.

You know you all make good points. I guess my thought was, hey give the dude a little time to collect his thoughts, enjoy the victory, and let the season sink in. I'm also upset because I liked Tice and figured if you give 13 years for an organzation it should mean you have a little time to settle up things before being shown the door.

Ok, that being said I think this is the right move for the vikings. Tice is a good guy, but he might not be the answer here in Minnesota.

thanks all for listening and giving your opinion.

P.s. Caine you just scared me!
no doubt. if that was the way wilf planned it to go down, thats straight dirty, bottom line, especially after all of the years he put into the organization.

Hey Jerry Jones has three rings on his fingers, if Zygi wants to dip his hands and comes away with three rings I am more than happy with that.

Well...he can't have it both ways. First Tice says he wants the decision as quickly as possible and then after he gets his decision as quickly as possible, he says he'd like more time to enjoy his victory. So if they waited in making the decision, would Tice have said "I wish they would have made the decision sooner?" You can't have it both ways.

And as for enjoying the victory, it was entertaining to watch, however remember we beat up on the Bears scrubs. Lovie Smith was even laughing during his loss. Their defense missed tackles they never miss and who knows what Grossman may have done for them on offense? I'm not sure this was that big of a victory for Tice to "enjoy". All it did was pad his stats a little while he looks for the next team willing to save a few bucks by hiring him.

I agree that it could be scary, but there's a difference between having "your guy" and being a control freak. Daniel Snyder and Jerry Jones are idiots because they're control freaks, and as a result they did or have recently caused problems within their organizations. On the other hand, when Ron Wolf took over the Packers as GM, he got rid of Lindy Infante and put "his guy" Mike Holmgren in place. Unfortunately for us Vikes fans we all know how that worked out.

Mike and Caine are all right on as usual. To whoever that was, Wilf apologists seem to exist too. He made his word, and then went the other way. Poor decision or poorly handled, whatever. He disrespected the fans too....not allowing us to even enjoy our final victory of the season before adding more controversy to the already overfilling pot in Minnesota.

What Tice meant by "quickly" was he wanted to know before he & his staff started their "offseason" preparation work preparing for next season.

Not while the team was still in the locker room showering after the game!

Glad to see you made it home safe & sound Caine!

Wilf is a dick for pulling the trigger that quickly...tomorrow would have been plenty soon enough! It's not like we need the position clear for someone to come in tomorrow...at least I hope not because I would like for him to evaluate all the potential candidates (including those coaches who are let go from other teams) before he makes a decision on OUR team's future!!!

Yes, but the difference between Lindy Infante and Mike Tice is that Infante only won 24 of 64 games. Tice was ONE GAME under .500. Infante also did not have the benefit of playing for Red "Ooooo...a petting zoo!!" McCombs.

in short, there is really no comparrison between Tice and Infante during his Green Bay years.

Also, I'm not saying that Zygi WILL become a control freak, or that he IS one...I'm saying that the point was raised, and until Zygi does something to disprove the point, it remains with a giant question mark dangling over it.

A good owner is the guy who brings in the talent to get it done. A good owner can become a bad owner if he forgets that while you may "own" the car, you probably aren't as good at driving it as the guy you hired....so LET HIM.

Of course, if Zygi hires Fassel, we're screwed!!!

Re: We have dishonesty among our ranks

If Wilf and Tice agreed to meet for a decision on Monday, they should had waited until Monday instead of surprising him right after the game. I applaud a straight forward --- quick decision, but stick to the plan.

I like Tice and I wouldn't have been too terrible upset if he was given an extension, but Wilf wants to take the Vikings to the next level --- and Tice is not the coach that would have gotten us there.

Will Tice be a head coach somewhere next season? Possibly, but doubtful. I expect him to be a head coach somewhere else in a few years... when he has gained more experience has a coordinator/assistant coach and is ready.

I think the first order of business is to bring in a qualified GM, and then we can start thinking about a head coach.
