Re: Vikings' Williams out with sprained right knee

if our whole D line comes back next year healthy, that will be one scary line we'll have

Udeze, K. Will, P. Will, James

    with backups of

    Johnstone, Mosley, S. Johnson, Scott

all of the backups have had playing time and have played very well

if they all play to poetential there may be no need to blitz lots, which cottrell doesn't do anyway.

we could put in Udeze, K. Will, P. Will and Scott for obvious run plays, and

Johnstone, P. Will, K.Will and James for obvious pass plays

MOsley can do both so he could sub in either but i'm not sure about Johnson

I don't see Udeze getting back into the starting line-up James is more talented and Scott is more consistent there is no reason you put Udeze in over either of these players.

naw, udeze is better still in my oppinion... however, he is injury prone so they will all get enough playing time. scott played like a beast yesterday and mosley had great first game.

Tice: Kevin Williams out with sprained knee

    JON KRAWCZYNSKI
    Associated Press

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. - Minnesota Vikings All-Pro defensive tackle Kevin Williams could miss the next two games with a sprained MCL in his right knee.

Coach Mike Tice said Monday that Williams, who has struggled this season coming off knee surgery and has just one sack, has a second-degree sprain and ruled him out for Sunday's game against Detroit.

"I'm not a doctor. They said second degree, so I guess that's worse than first degree, but not as bad as a third degree," Tice said. "I have a third degree."

Tice injured his knee when he was knocked over on the sidelines by a Giants player three weeks ago, and the coach didn't hesitate to have a little fun at his own expense.

"I think he'll be a couple of weeks, whatever the doctors say," Tice said about Williams. "Everybody's different with that injury. Me, I have not missed any time. Some guys miss time.

"He said to me that he felt better today and there didn't seem to be much swelling in there."

Williams was injured in the first quarter of the Vikings' victory over Cleveland on Sunday and watched the rest of the game in sweats on the sidelines.

It's been a difficult season for the third-year pro, who emerged as a young star in his first two seasons, but has not had the same impact so far in 2005.

Williams had surgery on his right knee in the offseason, which hampered his conditioning and caused him to come into training camp overweight.

The Vikings received better news about injured cornerback Fred Smoot, who has missed the last three games with a broken collarbone.

Tice said Smoot would get a CT scan to see how the injury is healing and the talkative cornerback could be ready to return as early as Sunday against Detroit.

"I would not rule him out completely for the game this week," Tice said. "We'll see how that CT scan comes out. If it's healed, he'll be good to go, if it's not healed, he'll be out at least another week."
