Re: Vikings will ship out Childress if QB fails

Rebuilding can only last two years. After that it is just sucking because the rebuilding process didn't work.

There was a short blurb yesterday saying Wilf expects to contend for the NFC North. We have an owner who wants to win more than he wants a new stadium. I truly believe that. That means if he doesn't think Childress is a winning coach, he will move on.

Also, new coaches don't exactly mean two more years of rebuilding. It is rare, but some coaches see success in their first year.

If Childress doesn't succeed this year, it will be on his shoulders. He has the players he wants. He has the schemes he wants. What more excuses can we give the guy?

That makes it clearer. I knew you were better than that and almost didn't want to post it;D

Now, you're posting this in five minutes on a Vikings fan message board.
It's just what you think and it's probably pretty close to the truth.

But the guy writing the article is doing the same thing.
And he's getting it published in a newspaper so that people will now think it's legit.
    This guy is from Denver.
He doesn't follow the Vikings closely.
He doesn't have an inside source.
He's just saying what he thinks will happen, like anyone here.

I don't think any of us really know what Wilf will do, though.
He could get pissed in the middle of the season and get rid of Childress this year.
He could keep him around for ten seasons even if he's mediocre.
    Who really knows?
    Only Wilf does.

Childress was smart. He picked his QB in hid first draft. He now has a chance to be here with Jackson through his success or failure.

Dennis Green on the other hand, picked a QB in his third year of coaching? ...
Keep in mind that Denny had a lot of success here with bringing in a new vet QB every year.
He was always a guy that thought his system was more important than the QB running it.
The better choice is whichever one works.

My point is not that Denny failed to bring in a QB, my point is that he brought a rookie QB in after 2 unsuccessful seasons, while he was already on the hotseat. The odds are stacked against a coach if he is already on the hotseat and then he brings in a rookie QB.

Had Denny brought in another veteran last season (Drew Brees?) he may still have his job. I'm not arguing against Denny's bringing in veteran QBs at all though, only the timing of the rookie QB pick.
Just wondering why you brought in his coaching days in AZ?
No one was even talking about AZ.

Re: Vikings will ship out Childress if QB fails

I was referring to Chilly picking his QB in his first year of coaching rather than waiting a couple of years. Denny Green and Romeo Crennell were two examples I thought of who picking rookie QBs after 2 or 3 seasons of coaching and will not benifit from that pick.

It was meant to be a conversation of Childress.

IMO Denny liked the big name blue chippers and took them when he could. He was not afraid to pull the trigger when talent was on the table as indicated by drafting Moss and Culpepper ,Torretta etc along with Robert Smith,Bennett etc. along with bringing in vets like Moon, Cunningham, George etc. Some worked out and some didn't but he liked the big names. Childress seems more adept at taking projects and developing them like TJ, Shank,Wade,Taylor etc. ( Not that he doesn't take any blue chippers as indicated by AP and Hutch) but I think they differ in that way.

Call it "Rebuilding" or not, there are a whole lot of new players/schemes etc on this team.
It takes time to "create a new environment."
But, IMHO it looks like they're on the right path so far.
I agree with everything you say, except the "on the right path" part.
The jury's out IMO on that one.

However, he has a five year contract, and I believe that, unless this year is a disaster - and I think we'll go 5-11, so that doesn't count as a "disaster" - then he will have one more year.

But another 6-10 season next year, and BC will be shown the door.

Re: Vikings will ship out Childress if QB fails

This guy writes for the Denver Post, I would like to know exactly how many times he has seen Tarvaris play. He says things such as "Many around think" and "There has been talk around the NFL" meaning, this guy hasn't sat down and actually watched T-Jack at all (aside from ESPN), he is going on pure speculation.

I've said it before, don't listen to sports journalists, especially from other city's. They have verbal diarrhea.

    ??? I think you're contradicting yourself. A 5-11 record doesn't constitute a disaster & he'll be given 1 more year, yet if it's 6-10, he'll be shown the door?

    :-\
I think he meant this year 5-11, and if we go 6-10 in 2008, Chilly is out the door.

Doesn't matter though, we're winning the Super Bowl this year.
