Vikings WildCard! *THIS REALLY COULD HAPPEN**

Well we should at least be thankful we are not the Lions!

Having said that here it goes how the sleeping Vikings make this years playoffs

Mathematically, yes, the Vikings can still get a wild card. However, the odds are low, but Iím sure you know that. Here is one scenario of what has to happen for the Vikings to get to the playoffs:
    1. Vikings finish 9-7.
    2. Bears lose to the Packers, Eagles, Patriots, Jets.
    3. Eagles sweep the Giants.
    4. Packers beat the Giants.
    5. Eagles beat the Cowboys.
    6. Falcons beat Saints
    7. Bucs lose to the Falcons, Saints, Ravens, and Redskins
    8. The three teams that donít win the NFC West are all 8-8 or worst.
Here, the Division winner would be the Eagles, Packers, Falcons, and the West winner.
Saints would get the first wild card.
Vikings would get the second wild card with the conference record tiebreaker over the Bucs and/or the Redskins.

We need 26 games to go in our favor.

We'd be amazingly lucky to make it.

Hmmmm.....I suspect pigs will be roosting in the rafters of our new stadium and Randy Moss will return to play QB for the Vikings and kiss Brad Childress at the center of the field before all those things happen.....but I'd love to see us go 9-7.

It's what you learn after you know it all that counts.

Mathematically, yes, the Vikings can still get a wild card. However, the odds are low, but Iím sure you know that. Here is one scenario of what has to happen for the Vikings to get to the playoffs:
Any of these things listed is very possible, some even likely. But all of them together is a formidable obstacle, especially with numbers 1 and 7 in there.

    1. Vikings finish 9-7.
The single most unlikely of the bunch. But since none of the rest matters unless we manage this, let's postulate that we do win out.

    2. Bears lose to the Packers, Eagles, Patriots, Jets.
Very possible. These are all good teams and the Bears will certainly lose at least some of them. Even one win out of four sinks us, though. Most likely win out of these may just be the Packer game.

    3. Eagles sweep the Giants.
Very possible since they have alreay beaten them in New York. We'll find out this weekend.

    4. Packers beat the Giants.
This one is iffy, but certainly possible. Depends a lot on how up the Giants are for it. If they need to keep pace with the Eagles, they'll be very tough.

    5. Eagles beat the Cowboys.
Likely, but it is a fierce divisional rivalry and the Cowboys seem to have found their motivation. Philly is the better team, but you never know. So were the Giants.

    6. Falcons beat Saints
I think the Falcons are the better team right now, but the Saints have been improving. It's a tough call.

    7. Bucs lose to the Falcons, Saints, Ravens, and Redskins
Much like the Bears list above, quite possible but even less likely. The Bucs should be able to take out the Redskins, and have at least a reasonable shot at the others. They are a better team than the Bears and will almost certainly win at least one if not more. This one will be the real problem for us even if the rest fall into place.

    8. The three teams that donít win the NFC West are all 8-8 or worst.
Very possible given the schizophrenic way they have all been playing this year so far. Heck, even the team that WINS it might be 8-8 or worse.

Here, the Division winner would be the Eagles, Packers, Falcons, and the West winner.
Saints would get the first wild card.
Vikings would get the second wild card with the conference record tiebreaker over the Bucs and/or the Redskins.
Much as I would love to see it happen, I can't invest any hopes in this. It would be too devastating to my psyche to make the run and lose it in week 17.

If it does happen, that would pit us against the #3 seed in the Wildcard round. I'm not sure who that would be in this scenario, I didn't do that math, but if we end up facing the Packers at Lambeau, that would be incredibly ironic.

Re: Vikings WildCard! *THIS REALLY COULD HAPPEN**

Some of this does not quite make sense to me.

Why do we need the Cowboys to lose to anyone? If we win out then we have a better record than them even if they win out. I think it only helps if they start beating teams. Besides, we have the tie-breaker over them.

Why do we need a conference record tie-breaker over the Redskins? If we beat them (which we have to if we are to go 9-7) we will also have any tie-breaker over them.

It does not matter if we finish tied with the Giants because we would have beaten them as well. So, other than us ... we need the Giants to find two other losses anywhere on the schedule, does not matter to whom.

We do need the Bears to lose 4 times and the Bucs to lose 4 times. We also need the Giants to lose 3 times. If those three things happen (big if) and we run the table we will be in with tie-breakers over them.

But as for the Eagles beating the Cowboys and the Falcons beating the Saints ... that does nothing for us. As a matter of fact, it would be beneficial for us for the Saints to win the South, because we cannot possibly win a tie-breaker with them since they beat us.

It boils down to only four things.
    1. Vikings win out.
    2. Giants lose TWO OTHER games (they would have lost to us also)
    3. The Bucs lose four games (I like the four you listed)
    4. The Bears lose THREE OTHER games (and lose to us to get to 9-7, we should have tie-breaker at that point, but MAY need them to lose another and fall all the way to 8-8).

All of this is POSSIBLE but not very likely.

The Bears have to lose to the Lions and the Vikes. If the Bears and the Vikings both finish 9-7 it would go down to tiebreakers.

    1. Head to head - Vikes would need to split the series
    2. Division record - Vikes are 1-3 and the Bears are 3-0.
    3. Common games - We are losing this battle right now. So far that is Vikes 2-6 and the Bears 6-2.
    4. Conference - Bears 5-3 and Vikes 3-4

    Common left for Bears
    Eagles
    Lions
    Pats
    Jets
    Pack
    Vikings

    Common left for Vikes
    Redskins
    Bills
    Giants
    Eagles
    Lions
    Bears

So we need to win out. The Bears need to lose to the Pack, Lions, and 1 out of the 3 left against the Pats, Jets, and Eagles. We would win via conference record. If not, the Bears must go 8-8.

I'm thinking it's likely that the Bears will do the necessary losing......they face some tough teams.

It's up to us to win.
